Is it worth to buy an extended warranty for your new 04 4Runner?

Greetings:

I am wondering if it is worth to buy a Toyota extended warranty for 7 years (i.e 4 years extra after the manufacture warranty ends) 75000 miles for 2004 4Runner Sport ed. It will cost approximately $1000.

Beside regular major maintenance at 15, 30, 60, 90K ect My average mileage is 15000mile a year max. and I do not tow or go off-road.

Any insight thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have an '03 Sport 4WD, and I didn't get the warranty. I thought very seriously about getting the factory warranty, and then when I was getting it put onto my insurance policy (GEICO), they offered me their version of the extended warranty. It seems like a good thing, and it seems to cover everything for 7y/100k...It was pretty cheap too...Much cheaper over time than the factory warranty...We'll see how good it is if I ever have to use it!

I think extended warranties are usually a rip off. They extend the warranty only as far as they think they can before the real problems start to occur. Usually the problems come much later after the warranty is gone. If you do some reading on this at some car buying web sites, they usually say don't spend that money.

Toyota makes some damn good products that can usually reach some major high mileage before parts start to wear out. I have had a couple of 100k plus mileage Toyotas that didn't have really any problems other than rust.
Save your money.

The reason I was asking for this is because I have had a problem with my 99 camry. At 57 miles the air flow ratio sensor went bad (engince check light up) and nee to be replace for $350. If this thing happens to the 4Runner, the extended warranty is probably worth it though.

gaslight: you are absolutely right. The majority doesn't buy the extended warranty.

That's interesting, when I bought my 03 4runner sport December of last year, I automatically got the 100k warranty: but not sure if there is a year limit on that. I have to check, know where I can find that? Probably in the contract I would assume.

One thing I like about Toyota's extended warranties is that you can buy them at any point up to 3 years or 36,000 miles. I think this is great because you have at least a few years to see how well your truck is holding up. I think this is especially valuable for those of us who got 2003 4Runners as it is a new, unproven model. This applies to new vehicles only.

I have heard good things about www.toyotawarranty.com. I spoke with them today and they will sell me a 72month/100,000 mile Platinum Plan(covers everything) with $0 deductible for about $1,000 for my 4Runner. They are a Toyota dealer out of Iowa and sell a standard Toyota backed warranty.

I honestly don't expect to have to buy it. I traded in my 1999 4Runner Limited with 95,000 miles. It had never needed a repair of any kind. It was still on it's original brakes. I doubt I will ever buy anything besides Toyota or Lexus from now on.

That's a good price. I paid $1300 for mine w/ $50 deductible. They were going to sell to me for $2k. When I express no interest, they drop to $1300. So I bought it.

You will get all of these money back + some when you sell your car. Just make sure you sell it with some warr left. AT $75/hr labor rate, cost you $50 just to have them look at the car.

I bought the extended warranty for my Limited. It has too many bells and whistles that would be expensive to replace. It provides me with some piece of mind.

We bought a 'demo' model, with 15k miles, and plan to put tons of miles, so we upgraded to the 100,000 mile warranty. Well worth it for the peace of mind, and especially when we are going to install the TRD supercharger...

ext warr does not cover supercharger

Pls dbl check w/ your dealer, the ext warr does not cover supercharger. It is covered by TRD for 50K or 60K miles. This is one of my concern that's holding me back on putting in a supercharger for my V8. This is what TRD told me back in 09/2003.
