Is JBL Standard or an Option on Limited?

I just bought a used 2012 Limited. I thought JBL sound was standard on the Limited but now I'm not too sure. Should there be labeling on the head unit or speakers that identify it as JBL?

Its an option but if you have it, it'll be labeled JBL. Easiest way is to check if your have a sub in the rear cargo area.

It's not that impressive, don't be too disappointed. I have nav and on the edge its says "JBL" on top of having the sub in the cargo section. Someone posted a picture of the cargo area where the sub would go and it looked like storage, they had a bottle of scotch in there. I'd trade my sub for a place for scotch in a heartbeat!

You could always go to a good audio shop and get a better setup installed if you're really an audiophile. You could use the money you saved by not getting the JBL option...unless the stealership took you to the cleaners.

Or...

There are tons of threads already on here on how to replace the speakers and head unit yourself if you are so inclined. Just use the search function and type in "5th Gen ----(insert head unit or speaker install here)" and you're on your way.

iirc, your choice is HD radio *OR* JBL Audio. Frankly, living in a urban/suburban area, I'll take the HD radio. The sound quality is excellent.

For the 2010 and 2011 model years, the Limited had JBL & no screen standard, with an optional JBL with 7" screen and Navigation.

For 2012 and 2013, the standard system on the Limited removed JBL and added Entune with a 6.1" screen. The optional system remained the JBL with 7" screen and Navigation.

For 2014, 2015, and 2016, the standard system on the Limited is the Entune Premium JBL Audio with Navigation, which has a 6.1" screen. Saw in the Toyota PR for the 2016 that they've added Siri Eyes Free for 2016.
