Is PIE still the best adaptor? (in-dash, 6-disk)

A better picture with the panel removed so you can see where the PIE unit is placed and the routing of the wire. Again, red wire is amp and blue is power on lead.

There is plenty of space to fit the PIE unit there

Thanks for the pics! I hadn't taken that part off behind the cubby door before. I just did an 800 mile trip and it only failed once. Next time I'm in there, I may try what you did for grins....
 
New adapter

I just spoke with PIE today and they said that the new toy03-aux adapter will be in 2 weeks. Just call back then see if it is available, then contact myradiostore.com for the raplacement.
 
can anyone tell me if this type of solution will work in a 1997 T4R? I am really wanting the XM commander but refuse to use FM modulation. I am having a hard time finding one for a 1997. Most places say it will only work w/ 98 and up 4Rs. Anyone know why? I didnt think that toyota changed anything from 97 to 98. Thanks
 
My PIE has been flawless since I put it in a couple of months ago (see link in sig). Zero cutouts or problems of any kind. Mine is crammed behind the radio and to the right, tucked behind a blower conduit.
 
Is it new?

If I just received my adaoter from PIE today. How do I know that it's the new version?

It looks exactly the same as the other. The serial number on the back is 410600099.

Is that the serial number for the new one?

Does anyone have the serial number of the old version?

Is anyone else using the TOY03-AUX along with the
XM COMMANDER?

PIE adapter? $70 (seventy dollars) is a heck of a lot of money for a plug with wires just to get input into your radio. Yikes! Is there a cheaper one out there??
 
I sell you mine for $50. It's the new version. I'm taking out the entire XM system out of 4runner.
 
Hey 2k34R? Are you going to sell me the used one that was removed from your runner? I want the new one that you just received in the mail..........please! :rolleye2:
 
Why are you removing the XM system? Do you not like it, have problems with it? I just installed one in my 4R a few weeks ago, just wanting to know why dont want it.
 
XM Commander

Well,

I'm not getting rd of XM for ever. I have friends at Toyota that hooked me up with the Scion Tc XM car kit. Since I have The Scion radio, I am going to go direct connect into my head unit. It will show, text, have the best sound quality, and should work with my steering wheel controls.


As for the XM commander, I am pretty disappointed with the quality. I get a squeal in the background that just annoys the crap out of me.

I have tried....

1) FM Modulator
2) Ground loop isolators
3) Noise Filters
4) Direct connect (TOY03AUX) old version
5) TOY03 - AUX the new version.

Nothing corrects this problem. Finally, I am riding around with a client the other day and he is a distributor for XM. He sees my commander and is like, " wow, that's the worst XM receiver we've ever made. We don't even make it any more."

So that's when I made my decison. And I'm sure that half the problem is me. I don't know sh** when it comes to radios.

I have a buyer for my XM commander, and fo'runner is picking up my brand new TOY03-AUX the new version, verified by PIE.

The scion kit is pricey, but my Commander will offset the cost.

The SCION kit should work like I said, right?

Looking for some help on this issue. I have a Roady2 XM/PIE Aux Adapter(new version) and ready to swap out my oem HU with the Scion 1804 HU. Do i need anything else to do the job to hardwire all this. Thanks in advance....:bash:
