Is play in CV joints normal?

wow that stinks, if that's the case, I'd call cvj or call camelback toyota to ask how much for them to ship.

or if you still wan the OEM, I think best bet may be find a used good OEM nearby and DYI reboot.

If still too much, I'd go w/ napa or its equivalent in Alberta.

Besides the shipping costs, i think there are other charges to get it across the border.

Shipping isnt too bad as long as its shipped via USPS... Ordered my LBJ's from a dealership in San Francisco and they sent it via UPS; they slapped me with a $58 "brokerage fee"....

Ya I'll probably just go with NAPA. I've already got the LBJ's off and I definitely dont want to take that shit apart again after waiting for a decent used OEM CV to appear. For the price, I'm sure they'll last long enough.

So I did a bit of digging and found out that the Altrom branded CV's from NAPA are the exact same as OEM Toyota CV's!

Not only are they identical, but they also have the lifetime warranty. So I'm definitely going for those.

I'm bringing my thread back as I have a few questions regarding the front differential.

When I grab ahold of the inner section or the cv (right where it mates to diff) there is a lot of play there. This suggests to me that the bearings in the diff are bad, as I wouldn't expect movement there, especially the amount that I'm getting. It's on both sides, though slightly worse on passenger side. I'm not talking lateral movement in the cv like I discussed earlier in the thread. This is looseness when I grab the casing right where the cv comes out from the diff. I can post a picture if necessary.

So is that play normal? I'm hoping some of you can crawl under your trucks and check for this same slop and post.

Also, have any of you rebuilt your front diff, or at least replaced the output shaft bearing on either side? I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can and should tackle

[MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] and I will be doing a removal, reboot and replacement of CV axles on his rig very soon. We can video how much play there is at the differential side of the axle and then you can compare it to yours. We'll move the shaft in all directions so you can get a accurate visual of the play.
