Is there a brake pressure activated switch that allow reverse in the 07 2WD 4Runner

Is there a brake pressure activated switch that allow reverse in the 07 2WD 4Runner auto transmission? At 53,000 mi reverse is harder to engage at times. The brakes seems to be OK so why is reverse not automatic to shift into with my foot on the brake. Pumping seems to help or I think it helps. I think I can bottom out at times w/o it running.

There's a shift interlock actuator that is supposed to prevent you from shifting out of park without your foot on the brake. But that is activated by the brake switch with the ignition on and is an on/off switch, not pressure.

I'm a little confused, are you saying that from Park to Reverse it is hard to engage or any time you engaged Reverse (i.e. Park to Reverse and Neutral to Reverse.) Also, does Reverse lag when you shift into it, or is it only hard to shift into the gear initially, while the actual function is working okay?

Are you parking on any kind of incline without engaging the parking brake?

With the engine running, brake applied, it easily shifts over but not back into reverse. It will take 2-3 tries on flat ground when this occurs. It’s always a smooth shift when it goes (like an alignment issue). My habit is to reapply the break until it goes. Knowing that it’s a switch vs pressure, I feel I should find the switch to see if it’s secured good.
