Is there a market for used CV axles?

I have a factory axle off my old '05 Sport Edition V6 4x4. Replaced the whole passenger side axle at 129,xxx miles due to a torn boot. Given that it is OEM Toyota, is there a market for this?

I usually pay about 50 bucks for a used OEM axle with torn boots then reboot them and keep them as spares.

eBay usually. A lot of junk yards will post them up. Last one I got was 55 shipped.

There's a good amount that get put up for sale on this forum if you can convince the seller to let go of them for less than the Ebay price. I bought a set from a member that were leaking and I rebooted/regreased myself.

Yeah thats a good idea. I'm running aftermarket axles right now but I would prefer to have oem axles without the new oem price haha

neither are "easy," but rebooting is a lot messier and more involved. plus, you don't know how worn out the internals are. probably easier to just replace with a new OEM axle.

That's why you inspect the outer cage for micro fractures while you're cleaning. Inner is fairly simple to inspect. The reality is that most people aren't going to be wheeling where they're gonna snap axles, or they aren't running a front locker which adds to the chance. I know you had some issues with non OEM, but I've never snapped one outside of full locked and crawling. Even then I think limit straps would have saved me from snapping them because I was at full droop locked in the front trying to drive off a high center situation.

Hardest part about rebooting besides the mess is getting the snap ring off the inner tripod so you can disassemble it to get the new boots on. Make sure you have the right tool for the boot clamps too, it makes life easier. I've done about 5 of them now. There's a kit on ebay that's 2 sets of boots for 50 bucks.
