Is there a need for cup holders on the 96-98?

Things have gotten crazy on me. We have kid #4 on the way and the business has grown to a point that I can barely keep up. Keep in mind I already have a full time job and 3 kids under the age of 6. The 3D printing thing was supposed to be a fun little side job thing that exploded on me. I had to cut way back on projects and only focus on one at a time. I just wrapped up the 1st gen square cup holder insert, the LX470 TEQ badges, and the universal cell phone mount. Now I am going to focus on wrapping up the FJ40 stereo bezel and knob pieces, the 2nd Gen cup holders, and the 3rd gen 12 volt plug. I hope to have all of the projects I signed up for done by August and don't plan to take on anymore. I just can't release anything else. Just keeping the promises I made and that's it.

Just wanted to drop a line about these cup holders - spoiler: they're fantastic. I received mine this afternoon and installed it in about 5 minutes. I immediately went to the local hit it & quit it (er... Kum & Go - yes, that's a thing), picked up a 32oz big gulp and took a rutted, washboard dirt road back to the house. The cup holder worked flawlessly.

It fits right in aesthetically (doesn't look out of place in our interior), holds a big gulp over some pretty crap roads just fine, and doesn't interfere with front seat passenger foot room / fore-aft seat adjustment as much as I thought it would. All at a price that you'd be foolish to pass over.

Thanks for the kinds words. I'm currently making some minor changes to the 3rd gen cup holders to be able to accept larger phones. I already increased the size a few months ago but apparently I need to go a bit further. The new phones on the market or coming out soon keep getting bigger and bigger and I want my cup holders to be able to keep up with that.

the rear 12 volt bezel project got put on hold. I had a bunch of family things i had to take care of which put all r&d on hold. I do have a request. Can i get someone who purchased a rear double cup holder in gray to post pics of it installed? I am using a new gray paint that is a better match with the factory color and would like to update the pics of my website.

All new product development has been put on hold. The business got beyond what I could do alone so I had to cut back in every other area so I could get orders out. I hired a new guy over the summer that I just finished training. He will be doing the majority of prepping my plastic products which will open my time back up again to restart all of those projects. The rear 12volt plug is on the list.

I guess I can finally give a product update. I actually had some time today during my lunch break to work on design updates. I was able to get the double cup holder phone slots (on the side of the cup holder) to be 1/2" wider to accept the latest larger phones that are coming onto the market. Hopefully phones wont get much bigger because I am totally out of space to go bigger. The new slots should accept just about every phone on the market without issue. The single cup holder for the manual tranny also got updated. The last prints of the old design are running now. In the morning I will be switching my machines over the the newest design. The final old batch will take about a week to sell out and the new ones will just follow in right behind. The final cup holder design looks identical. You have to really look close to see the additional 1/2" of added space in the slot. I will let you guys know when the new versions are starting to ship. I would guess some time around next weekend.

Suppose I should add a picture to complete my cluttering up of the thread. That yeti thing weighs a ton when it's full and it's a perfect fit. It doesn't get near enough the center stack to touch on even the roughest terrain.

For the folks who wanted a visual reference of the change I made to the current cup holder design; here it is. Look closely at the slot on the side of cup holder for cell phones. I made this change to the 2WD and 4WD double cup designs. The single cup designs could only get stretched 1/4" due to limited space of the side mounted slot. The double cup design was stretched a bit over 1/2". I have a already shipped a few of the 4WD new versions out and the updated 2WD version will start shipping out today. The new slot should accept the largest phones on the market.

They did a limited re-issue recently. The nostalgia/novelty wore off the second I took a whiff of... whatever it is they flavor it with. Couldn't make it past the 1/2 way point before throwing it out.
