Is this a decent price for this 4runner?

I'm in the market for a 4runner to daily trailer my bike to a few track days/weekend trips. I've looked heavily all over California and it seems that it's really hard to find the 99 4runner 4x4 manual.

I did finally find a few and this one looks to be the best that I can find. I just want opinions or advice on if it's worth it and if I buy it what are some questions I should ask the dealership before I commit?

Also it looks like it has the TRD Supercharger already on it which is a plus I suppose but wasn't on my immediate TO-DO list on upgrades for it. It really just adds maintenance in my eyes right now and I'm concerned i'll need to rebuild it in the near future because it has such high miles and I'm unsure if they know when it was installed.

That one is in my town and another member went to check it out. Apparently the dealer is kind of an ******* and told my friend he better have 9k cash in his pocket otherwise he can't test drive it. Was vague and locked the car when my friend didn't have cash on him. He said it was a clean truck and probably worth looking at if you're interested. I'd say $7500-$8500 out the door is a good price, but 9k plus dealer fees and such is a lot.

Thanks for the reply. I'm really bent on it but I agree it's right at the limit where I think it's almost to much.

I found another one south of me about the same drive, unfortunately it has the leather which i'm not interested in and the Supercharger look different. I also found this car was a Northeast coast car up until Feb of this year. The VIN check I got back from motosnoop.com also stated it has some Title issues in VA. Thus why I started looking north for another similar one.

Superchargers don't NEED to be rebuilt. They will run ok and it's not like it's going to blow up or something. It's more of if you want the supercharger to last as long as the engine you'll need to rebuild it a few times in that timeframe.

I paid $7k for a supercharged 4Runner with 190k miles, just 24k than that and I'm also in California. $8k would be a more reasonable price for it but dealers are always more expensive than private sellers.

Umm... can we trade? You better jump on that ASAP if you want a 5 speed, it's going to sell in a matter of HOURS.

Edit: it's a 15 day old post, it's probably already gone. Or there's something seriously wrong with it.
 
I bought an '01 4R with a S/C last month. See my sig for details - but I only paid $8,200 and that was because the S/C and ToyTec lift already installed. As for upcoming maintenance costs - you are right. I spent almost $750 on maintenance items to include s/c maintenance within the first two weeks. The first few weeks I was a little sore on the deal but now that I am past the maintenance issues and the 4R is performing nicely I am okay with what I paid. I know I would have a hard time finding the same setup for the same price again.

After driving a supercharged 3.4 with a lift kit I do not think I would drive a 3.4 without a supercharger.

It's actually still on their website listed at 9995 but the add keeps getting refreshed. Again I'm concerned on this one because it was shown to be in MD, MA, VA almost all of it's life and there was a loss record in VA on the VIN check. I'd prefer an all California Model which is why I posted the first one. If you guys find anything like the 2 I posted PLEASE let me know. I'm ready to be back in a 4runner.
 
I clicked that link and was REALLY happy it wasn't my supercharger video. lol Mine was not quiet that bad but it is much happier after the rebuild. My wife commented on how much quieter the 4R is now that the s/c has been rebuilt.

You're kidding right? :loco:

The nose cones on them do need to be rebuilt from time to time. We have a thread dedicated to them, and links showing how to rebuild them. Here's 93 pages, and in there you'll find a ton of information about why to rebuild them/how to rebuild them.

I've now found something I like better but am waiting reply from the seller.

I was thinking no more then $7500, or is his price pretty fair already?

I'm waiting to find out if/when the timing belt was replaced I believe they're supposed to be done at 90k, if they're not will it cause significant harm and should I look the other way?

That truck looks pretty good from what you can see in the photos, but the fact that they're taken in the dark is a little strange. :fish::der:

With that mileage, if everything checks out I'd say that's a pretty decent deal, considering the location and that it's a 5 speed. If you can get him down another $500 I'd say you're coming out very well.

As far as the timing belt goes, if it hasn't been done it won't hurt anything. You just need to factor a replacement into your costs. The belts are well know to last much longer than 90k, and since this isn't an interference engine it doesn't do any damage even if it breaks while you're driving. You're just stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow.

Replacement costs will vary, but figure $700-$1000 to pay someone to do it, or about $300 in parts and specialty tools if you do it yourself. Plenty of info on here about how to do it and what you need. :thumb:
