Is this a good deal?

This is for sale locally (Northern Rocky Mountains) and I'm super tempted to pick this up, even though I already have a really nice 3rd gen and would have no use for this (can't afford to build a hard core wheeler right now), but it's very tempting with the ARB and all.

I haven't seen it yet, but this is what I know:

1994 Toyota 4Runner, Dark green. V-6 3.0 ltr. 4x4. Automatic tranny. 159000 miles. Automatic windows, moon roof, locks and mirrors. ARB front bumper with Delta lights. Tinted windows. Almost new 31x10.5x15 Goodyear Wrangler Authoritys. New Distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and Fuel filter. Also new Idler arm, steering arm and alignment. asking $2800/OBO.

sounds like a good deal. do a compression test. see if it had a headgasket recall if so how long has it been done.

mileage is pretty low. if your looking for another project, i would just take the money and put it in your current 3rd gen. it has a much better engine and suspension
 
An update from the seller:

I am selling this 4runner cuz I dont need 3 vehicles. I dont have a history with it I bought it in billings a couple of months ago and have put a few bucks into it and just dont need it. The check engine light is on and its due to a bad nock sensor. I am not going to replace it cuz it is in the middle of the engine. The 4runner runs fine without it being hooked up. The only thing it really needs is a new windshield.

Is this a bad CEL code? Or does this mean that it heads head gasket work?

crazy how much cheaper these things go for outside of southern california. That's a $3500 4runner all day round' here :surfer: lol
 
There's a lot more of them in the mountain west. I see several 1st and 2nd gen trucks every day. Colorado and Idaho are the same way, they're all over the place.

That's a good point...

Is a bad knock sensor a big deal? Roughly how much would it take to fix that at a mechanic?

I think I'll look over the truck tonight while I'm in town for some other things and then if the truck doesn't sell for a while, I might offer something like $1.5K, depending on what it might cost to fix it.

Another update:

The code is for the nick sensor. It had another code for the egr valve but i fixed that. I dot know the exact code number.

He had a Toyota dealer (a good, solid reputable one) pull the codes but he doesn't know the actual codes... I'm trying to get them, we might take it to O'Rielley's or some other car part store to get them to pull the code...

The dealer is also the one who installed some of the parts on the truck, listed in the OP.

Is it OBD2? I don't think it is, but I don't know the 3.0's - if not, you should be able to pull the codes by jumping the diagnostic port and counting the number of flashes of the check engine light.

Yeah, you and Diverse4runner are both right, this is OBDI, but the guy is calling the dealership to see if the dealer remembers the code in their computer... If not...

We tried O'Rielley's (sorry, just can't spell that word), and it doesn't show up for that reason, probably because it's a OBDII scanner working with a OBDI.
 
The more I learn about this truck, the more I am a little leery...

The latest:

Now I want you to know that this 4runner is no power house. I know the nock sensor has some to do with it but generally these 4runners are known for not having a ton of power. It could use a new windshield and one of the back rails under the rear window broke and fell apart one day. The window still rolls up and down but it needs a little help :-) There are also a few dash lights that need to be replaced. I just havent done it yet. I have a guy that comes down from belfry and does my windows and he said a new windshield would be about $200 and for him to replace the rails on the rear window would be around $125-ish. Just so you know. My lady loves this 4runner but I would like to pay off a couple of bills, this is why I am selling it. Plus like I said I dont need 3 vehicles :-).
