Kelley Blue Book puts it at $15,300 in a private transaction (assuming I got all the options correct).

It is in great shape but personally I wouldn't be interested in that kind of mileage unless it was at least $3 or 4k less.

We (the south) have jaded prices on everything. I was in the market in April and found an 06 Limited in South Carolina with 145 on the clock going for 11K, carfax clean and dealer serviced as a company car. I know SoCal isnt the REAL SC (the only states that matter are the OG 13, you get a star, I have a stripe) regardless, prices are douchy out there. For douchebags!

long story short, no, this is a crap deal. I'd go baller status and fly to get a etter deal than drop this money on 177K miles. We all should agree that LA hgwy miles are the exact same as every body elses downtown city miles.

This guy's got "pie in the sky" disease. It looks nice, but 177k?!? For THAT price? Id stay away.

I came close to flying from Boston to Ill. to get a barely-used 4th gen sport V8. Luckily, i found one in Cape Cod that was near the same all around.

I say go find one that you could go on a journey for. It's fun!

Ha, good point about the highway miles. Here in LA that doesn't mean much. I've seen 03 and 04 V8 4th gens with 90k miles going for 12-13 then sometimes I the same exact truck for 15-17. LA tends to have over inflated prices for 4runners and Tacomas though.

I've seen good deals in Las Vegas and Phoenix but, I always figured it would be a hassle to register an out of state vehicle in California.

Couldn't agree more with the posts here. I flew to southern Oregon from b'ham WA and drove my 2005 SR5 V8 home with some buddies (10 hr drive). It was really cheap for me as I used air miles for all 3 tix and just paid for food and gas on the way home. It's a nice way to get to know your new vehicle.

If you are paying cash then it might be a little more paperwork on your end but it was a breeze for me as my Credit Union did all that stuff for me. I just signed the paperwork and the runner was mine!

Speaking of cash, at a dealership I shouldnt mention that I'm paying with cash till after I negotiate the total price, right? I read stories where the dealerships wont negotiate if you're paying with cash because they want you to finance instead.
 
I don't think I'd pay more than 10-11k for that car. Yeah it's a Toyota but 177,000 is up there. There are a few people on this forum that have crossed the 200k mark, but after that I think it's bound to get into a problem or two.

I can see where they guy is coming from, it looks clean and to him it's probably worth that much, but to me it's not.
 
Bigmike, correct. I never tell them how I'm planning to pay for the vehicle until you negotiate price. Like most stealerships, they want you to finance the car through them. In my instance, I emailed and called about 10 times back and forth, had then send me maintenance records, and then negotiated price. Then I told them I had all my financing in order so dont bother with that! I have to admit that the guy I dealt with was hella cool and there was no pressure, I lucked out.

I should have mentioned this in the first post but I was in San Diego in January and stopped by the Carlsbad Toyota dealership to see what used 4Runners they had. They must have had 20 on the lot and, to me, the prices seemed really good. When I asked the sales guy why they were so cheap his response was they come off of lease and can't get rid of them...don't know if it's true or not but that's what he said. I would have upgraded our 2003 to a newer model but they were all v6 and 2wd. I need the v8 and 4wd.

p.s. the 2008 I bought last week from Mountain States yoda in CO came with 2.9% financing on a certified vehicle AND a really good price.

Yeah I wondered about that. Everytime I looked at a car the first thing that came out of their mouths were, "hows your credit" or "how much you're willing to pay per month". So I'm just going to tell them I have my own financing in order. Cash. Thanks for the advice.

Funny you mention that. Seems like I been finding way better deals for 4th gens down in San Diego. Like 2-3k cheaper in than in LA in some cases.
