is this normal on new knock sensors?

on top the new ones. one is missing the cap the other one has? the old ones both had the caps.

I did an image search and it looks like some have capped ends and some do not... originally I had MATSUSHITA I'm guessing from the M on the old ones. don't think that should matter.

think it's ok to proceed with the uncapped one?

the new denso that is missing the cap was brand new in the bag sealed up but it looks like it has some millage already on it? hmmm.

Did you buy these from the dealer? I'd be quite cautious in using the one on the right in the last pic. If you still are on the fence, PM Rock_Rat and he would most likely be able to give you a yea or nea.

Also ran across your leather seat replacement on YT the other week. Quite entertaining. When working with leather or the like, IMHO, the warmer the better.

The bag it came it looks odd to me. I've ordered a lot of OEM parts from a bunch of online dealerships and I've yet to see a bag like that. It's either very, very old inventory or a fake. Toyota/DENSO is known to change the design of parts and not tell anyone about it, like the radiators for example.

I have used them quite a bit and they have always provided OEM at decent prices. so... they were sealed in the little bags. I agree the one looks like it has traveled the world and back. I'm going to see if I can RMI it with them. it's the only biach about online stuff they are hard to return sometimes.

good glad to hear I entertained... I'm pretty much a goofball but I have received a lot of feedback from that vid. wanted to give people an idea of how a noob does auto upholstery. nailed it!

pretty sure my knock sensor code was really the wire harness... it kind of turned to dust once I touched it. once I'm down 3 layers into the engine... waiting on parts drives me nutters.

yes they do change things... recently did my master cyclinder. they changed the seals.

you can see the difference between old a new, I installed it and it works fine. my old seals were starting to turn to black grime.

I am guessing that as OEM parts get more scarce for 3rd gens, even for tpd, whom I have ordered from long ago, can't be 100% certain the parts now are new and sealed. I would imagine they would take it back NQA.

Yea, the videos were great. I just redid my backing of the driver's seat. Mine didn't have a zipper unfortunately so zip ties were used instead.
