Is this worth $8,700?

Check with Carfax to verify the mileage. It's easy to swap out odometers. At 126k it's more than time for the timing belt, water pump, and radiator replacement service. If there's no timing belt sticker under the hood subtract $1200 and have an independent Toyota mechanic service it.

On the plus side it has the elusive cup holder bottom insert.

No way a dealer would come off that amount even if the maintenance isn't done. Dealers now a days just don't haggle at all. The op could ask but pretty sure he was not get it for 4k. If maintenances are not up to date I would say offer them $6500-7000 at most.
 
i paid $10,300 2 years ago for a 2002 118k.....

fully loaded 4x4..... i live in California. so absolutely not a speck of rust for this vehicle
 
Both prices are high. Keep in mind that these little dealers buy cars at auction normally, some have major issues or salvaged titles but that would need to be disclosed with the sale. They get them at the lowest price they can, do as little to them as possible to sell them at a way over inflated price. Personally i would look at private sellers only. You are not paying all the overhead of a used car lot, dealing with the person that has been driving it on a regular basis and hopefully they will be honest with you on the condition. With a used car lot they dont really know the condition and how well it has been maintained and they dont care, they just want your money. Look for a 99-02 with diff locker, i perfer j shifter 4x4 but they all are good and get the job done just the same, look out for frame rust so bring a flashlight and look under the vehicle. Any signs of bad rust walk away. Good condition regardless of the miles should be $3000-6000, i know thats a large range but it all depends on the miles, condition, year, options and the seller. I paid $850 for my 97 SR5 4x4, it was well cared for with all the service record, needed control arm bushings, radiator and and alt after I got it bit it ran and drove great as it was. I should have paid around $3500 for it and it blue books at $4800 with 263k miles.

Absolutely would go for a fly n' drive. You guys post on here about 3-6k for 120k miles but I am searching ebay/autotrader/craisglist and cant find anything in those ranges, dealer or personal sale. There is a 00' 4x4 limited in texas for $6900 with 75k miles but it needs both front and rear bumpers replaced. If anyone sees a good deal in these price ranges you are posting, please post a link to them as I cant find anything in these ranges that isn't full of rust or 300k miles.

hell 6900 and it only has 75k? is the rest of the truck clean? i mean bumpers can be replaced.

Without a carfax, Ab-so-lutely not. With a carfax, completely clean 1 owner? Still not really. Used car dealership?? Ehh id stay away. Plenty of good deals on CL though! Spend 7k and youll get a beautiful sport edition! Paid 5,400 for mine with 134,000

find out what his loan pay off is. if it is close to the 7k offer to pay it off. bad seats can be a big detractor becuase of how limited used ones are in good shape. Hell I am getting ready to buy new foam here at work (im in parts at toyota) and that is 200 bucks for my cost alone! new leather bottom was like 470 after tax for factory as well.

Screw rust. It's the reason I cancelled the whole plan of importing a HDJ81 from Japan. Hop on Search Tempest and start searching! I fly n' drive most of my vehicles. It's become a very enjoyable tradition.
 
I think it's worth 8700... or more, IF it has NO rust under or on frame.

so I'm in AZ, price market here is CRAZY high, I purchased a 99 LTD with dif lock for 10k, miles @ 152k. about a month ago

I had the dealer send it to a toyota dealership, I talked to the mechanic that did the inspection, he was impressed on the overall shape of the vehicle, it did need a rear wheel seal and r brakes (I'm going all out on replacing both wheel bearings too) and a tune up.

I also purchased the car fax report, I wanted to make sure on EVERYthing I could. KBB estimated perfect it was worth 9k, car fax said it was worth 1k more than 'retail' so I think I got a decent deal.

another note, dealer was supposed to post the vehicle @ 11k and go no lower than 10.5k, he posted it @ 10k by mistake and I called him on it.

as I did my purchase from AZ (truck in CA) I had to rely on what others said. my main concern was surface rust underneath, and tech gave pics of no rust anywhere.

once it got here, yeah I went through it, some cosmetic issues that were fixed but other than stated, no deal breakers yet to be found, it was all up front.

as for me, I figure this is a toy for me, not just a DD. so I'm going to get what I want right away, less to put into it later.

for me, rust is a deal breaker, period.
