Is X-REAS supension worth it?

me neither. but i do wish i had the nav. thats the only thing from the limited i wish was an option in the SE.

Thank you all

I appreciate for your help. It's like you guys have given me a walkthrough in the middle of nowhere. :D
I guess sport would be the best choice for me.

the ultimate dumb x-reas question

Ihave X-REAS on my 2003 V8 LTD. I didn't test drive a 2003 without it, but I do know it handles corners much better than the 2001 SR5 I drive all the time.

Here's the question: how the heck do you say X-REAS?

Is it X, R, E, A, S or is it pronounced kind of like its spelled?

I think you say it the way it is spelled. That is the way the salesman pronounced it when he tried convinving me the Sport was better!

My question is that whether it is worth to have X-REAS suspension. I test dorve both vehicles but couldn't tell the differences.

Furthermore, is it worth to go for sport package over SR5 basic?

Well, I hope I wasn't imagining it, but when I test drove the SR5, and then the Sport, (I bought), I felt a major difference in handling. Besides the shock system, I've read that the suspension is a bit stiffer, and the 17" wheels, will help handling a bit too. The Sport has larger disk breaks too, that I've been very impressed with.

Me...I had to go with the Sport.

Xreas, of which the "X" represents the diagonal crossing of the lines connecting the shocks to the center canister, stands for
"Rebound Energy Absorbing System" Developed by Yamaha, is pronounced like an [medical] xray, and then the letter "s."

With all this recent conversation about Xreas, it's ironic that yesterday, I assisted in the p/u of a new Lincoln LS Sport model.
A pretty nice little car, and we took about 50 miles of pretty curvey [central Virginia] back country roads. With him in the lead, I had the real first test of Xreas. I was favorably impressed. I was not trying to totally stick with him, but I was pushing it. I'm the 1st one to say the 4R ain't no sports car - I've got some stuff thatwill handle, but it did very well. Near perfect line anticipation is required, and you damn sure would not want to bail, or alter your line mid-stream, as this type of vehicle [truck!] is not very forgiving. Overcook it, or ask it to be something it isn't & you could go Yamahopping backwards through the rough stuff.

Springs are the same on all 4runners i believe. The difference you are feeling is from the shocks. As explained in my description of XREAS (see link on 1st page of this thread), XREAS shocks are MONOtube meaning that they are high-pressure shocks. High-pressure shocks give a firmer ride than TWINtube shocks found on non-XREAS 4runners.

The 17" wheels may make the ride stiffer, but it also makes for slightly better steering response. Very slight.

Sport Edition

I've had my White Sport for two months and love the X suspension. With the higher profile of the 2004 $ runner it gives me a lot of confidence. Also the best part of the whole package is the larger Brakes!. I hade to use them hard twice on the Freeways and both times they almost threw me out the front window. Big difference over the SR-5. That's why they have 17" wheels so they can fit the bigger rotors and calipers inside the wheels.

I'd recomend the Sport model

I originally figured I would get a SR5 model, but after looking at the Sport I came to the realization that it was one of the best $1000 dollars you could spend. The XREAS suspension is worth it in my opinion. It allows for some hard cornering with very little body lean. Oh and I know it sounds minor, but that telescopic steering wheel is awesome.

I wouldn't spend the money for a Limited. I'm sure its awesome but $4000 is a lot of money for leather and few other luxury items. The only thing that I wish I had is a power driver's seat.

Bottom line I think that the 4Runner Sport is one of the best investments you can make. Your getting a hell of a lot of bang for the buck. I've had mine for 6 weeks now and I am completely satisfied.

Good luck.

X-REAS is supposed to help a lot more. But I got here after a long line of sports cars. And from the first time you take a turn too fast, X-REAS or not, you'll have the scary reminder that you are now in a truck. There are several options to differ the SR% from the Sport. But handling is not gonna be drastically effected by buying a Sport.

Xreas

Arouth - You have the take on the S.E. exactly right. I have wondered from the start why more buyer are not on to it. I don't mean on the forum, because this is where you find the enthusiasts, & there are more S.E. proportionally, but on the street, and @ dealerships. You just don't see 'em.

I went with the LTD as I know I will have it for at least 15 years. The heated leather electric seats are awesome and the wife no longer bitches about the heat and air with the dual zone. With kids the leather cleans up nice. And you can't get the NAV & back-up camera without going for the LTD.
.
Different strokes for different folks. Just didn't want to "settle" with myself since I'm living with it so long. Bought it for the Toyota reliability and longevity as most people do. Longer I own it the cheaper it gets.

I just got back from a week trip where I rented a car and ironically, it was a 2004 4Runner SR5.

It handled very similar to my 2004 Sport, except my Sport has a tighter suspension, due to X-REAS. Furthermore, the Sport as a few more "luxury" items, but the SR5 was still very nice, a lot nicer than the other SUVs, I have gotten when I get a rental car. Some differences were the steering wheel doesn't telescope, in the SR5 there is a storage area in the rear while on my Sport there is a speaker in the cargo area. I feel that my Sport has a better braking ability.

One person, who owns an Explorer, was surpried with how smooth and quite the 4Runner ran and was actually surprised to find out it was a V6.

The only part which I wish I had on my Sport was the rear "mirrors" where the JBL speakers are. It surprised me how useful those were. Those were very useful!!

My $0.02 is, whatever 4Runner you would get, you are getting a well made vehicle. Either a SR5, Sport, or Limited, you can't go wrong. And even with the debate over V6 or V8, I think both are good engines, besides the Sulfur smell.
