Is your gas mileage as bad as mine?

I’m getting anywhere between 170-200 miles to the tank. 13-14 mpg city and highway driving. I use mid-grade gas(89). The V6 truck is stock with 95k on the dash. Tires pressures are fine. ECT off. I don’t beat on the truck. Barely hit 70mph on the highway.

-new fuel filter
-replaced plugs/wires
-reset my EFI
-cleaned the throttle body
-new air filter

The only I haven’t done is clean the MAF and compression test. My O2 sensor gasket is bad, but I can’t see that effecting mileage this much.

Any ideas?

Driving with the ECT on usually buys me 1-2 MPG...I think I just don't push the engine quite so hard when it's engaged. I'm averaging between 15-18

Yup I avg 13 with all my city driving. I did just clean my MAF and noticed a difference on acceleration and mpg.

I'm getting about 15.5 to 16.5 mpg with 95% city driving. I have no lift, 265/75/16 tires and 366k on the original motor and transmission. The wires and plugs are due for a change too.

Torque Pro tells me I'm getting 27.2 MPG.
Calculated by hand/fill up gallons to miles, I'm getting about 14..

[MENTION=118879]Tek23[/MENTION]... when you fill up your tank from empty, how many gallons to fill up? There could be a good chance your tank sensor (forgot what its called) need replacement.

Example: when I purchased my 00 3rd Gen, I was noticing to fill up the tank was 13 gallons from the needle hit empty with light indicator on (about 197/200 miles). We should be getting 18 gallons from specs, so I got Scangauge and been monitoring and slowly increasing my Gallon settings from 13 to 16 gallons now. I haven't gotten stranded yet at 267 miles. My next fill up, I will set 17 gallons on the settings and run from there.

Basically what I'm saying is to ignore the light indicator and run it dry. To be safe, get a ScanGauge or another type, and monitor your fuel consumption.

My city mileage is pretty rough. With ect I get 14-15. I just did a highway trip that took entire tank and was able to average 19mpg which made me pretty happy.

I usually have about 230 miles when I fill up around a quarter tank left, and average about 16 mpg driving mostly city. If I push it to 1/8 tank or near the light I can get about 260 mostly city. Most I ever had was 336 all highway, and most of that being like 55 mph on smaller highways. I put in 15.8 gallons when I did that so I had 21.3 mpg highway.

I generally get about 20-21 on the highway driving at 65-70, which is better than most I think . But then I am quite easy on the gas and don't roar away from stop lights...

You need to replace the head gasket

While you are replacing the head gasket you need to clean inside of your engine that will cost $400. After cleaning the engine inside your motor oil will not turn to dark until another 100k. The truck will become brand new to the original gas mpg. Your local Toyota dealership could do it.

I get 14 mpg city. I usually don't see 20mpg unless it's all highway

Anywhere from 14-18 depending on where i get gas and how hard i drive it those three days, yeah i fill up about every 3 days i drive 70-80 miles a day during the week.

I'm about the same 14 to 18. But I will say when I was stock I was 17 to 20.

On a positive note after lift, armor everything I've been very consistent at 15ish no matter how I drive or what I do

Compression test will tell you everything. If those #s looks good, I'd hook up a scanguage or torque to monitor what the a/f ratio is doing, check for any codes, fix the sensor gasket, clean the maf and iac also. Luck! :cowboy:

In Torque, under Settings then OBD2 Adapter settings, enable "Faster communication" and also "Enhanced MPG Calculation" Otherwise it is WAY off

After checking it by hand for a few tankfuls I also set the MPG adjustment value under my car profile to 1.04 but depending on your driving that number may be different for fine tuning it.

This was my first thought. I'm surprised it wasn't brought up sooner.

OP- If you have a bad (including a poor seal) O2 sensor, your gas mileage can be affected by that alone. The O2 sensor, in the big picture, measures how rich or lean your engine is running based on efficiency. Of course, with any other OB1/2 vehicles, there are many other factors that come into play, but this is definitely something to look into.

But as others have stated, mpg's will drop depending on driving style, commute type, and weather conditions.
