Isn't my mileage supposed to be better?

so today I ripped the truck apart and I found my culprit.

the tps in my car is new, but in fact it was my catalytic converter. I couldn't even shine a mag lite through it.

ordering a new magnaflow cat 2.5 inch, muffler and all that so I can finally get my exhaust finished.


thanks a ton everyone. I'm gonna do seafoam next oil change and diff oil too. I'll report back when I get mileage test results.

DONT PUT ON THAT MAGNAFLOW CAT back system they are known for throwing p0136 codes.

seems like that code is on v6 5vz motors, I haven't come across one for the 3rz...

I could be wrong but all I found was v6's on google.

I'm running a magnaflow setup and no codes. Mines a 3.4l v6 and it's been on there for 2yrs+ now. Its hit or mis from what I understand. Even the few that get a code...doesn't seem like a big crowd having issues with the magnaflow cats. Unless you have a custom setup The factory exhaust size is 2.25". Everything with the v6's anyhow seems to show a decrease in power by going to a 2.5" I stuck with the 2.25" and I'm glad.

I've also had problems with the cat where the check engine light doesn't come on. I had a cat that was plugged so severly that the car wouldn't rev over 1500rpm and the check engine light NEVER came on. I "cleaned out" the cat and the car ran better than ever.

Also, the O2 sensor would have to be fairly far gone before the check engine light would come on so it could be contributing to the problem.

If the O2 sensor was making the car run rich it may also have caused the cat to get clogged in the first place because you would get more emissions running rich and the cat would be "over-worked"

As for the mileage. There's any number of contributing factors. If you haven't done plugs/wires/cap/rotor lately that could be contributing to the problem.
