ISR Mod Pics?

This is prob a stupid question and I know this forum is a few months old, but i can't find much on the late model mod. After installing the strait pipe what do you guys do with the vacuum line that ran to the box?

EDIT: nvm I finally noticed it was just capped off in a pic..... idk why I couldn't see it before
EDIT AGAIN: something is up with my computer cuz it only showed me the first page and now I see its 3 pages...... Going to steal your idea fightman80 w/o the TRD

A few months old?? Dude you have been a member since 2010!!

And I like the mod, I'm going to do a shorty simmilar setup but more of a "short ram intake" or some ish (so I can fit the 2nd batt where the stock box goes)
 
1999 Limited 4runner

I went to a local muffler shop and had them take a 2.5" pipe and bend it out to 2.625" and weld a nipple on there for the fuel regulator hose. I painted it with some black paint made for high heat.

New to the forum. If I am understanding this ISR mod correctly, you remove the stock air intake manifold or tubing if you will and replace it with a metal pipe to allow more airflow?

If by "airflow" you mean "noise" then yes!

ISR stands for Intake Silencer Removal. So the mod would be removing just that portion of the intake (the big clunky boxy thing before the throttle body), and replacing it with a straight piece of tubing. Keep in mind you will have to re-route some intake hoses depending on what year you have.

The mod doesn't do much. It adds a little more aggressive sound to the throttle at high RPM's, like 3.5k-4k. Otherwise, it's done to clean up the engine bay a little.

Like I said, I'm not having any delusions of HP or MPG gains, I just think it will clean up that side of the engine compartment, AND have a little custom touch of my own under there. :D

Have any of these pieces with the hose nipple laying around? I would give you cash for one.

CLEAN job on that! Can't believe I haven't even thought to do this yet, I've always been big on cleaning up/simplifying engine bays when appropriate.
 
Thought I'd resurrect this thread with a quick observation I had.'

I did this mod a year or so ago, used an aluminum tube with the same length & diameter of the stock tube. I drilled a hole and welded a bung so I could tap in with that hose that connects to this tube (I don't know what that hose is).

Anyway, I've been chasing a "running rich" condition per my OBD readings. I was seeing LTFT up to -17% fuel trims at idle and up to -10% while at speed, but my STFT was near zero while driving, but would show up to -15% at idle. I replaced my O2 sensors (which were old anyway), and got no significant change on my readings.

Last week I had to do smog (I live in CA) and I failed visual due to having a "modified intake." So I went back home and swapped over the OEM intake tube with the ISR, passed smog, and now my fuel trim readings all look normal. I'm seeing +-5% LTFT and +-2% STFT.

So I take this to mean that my MAF was getting improper readings due to the different air flow pattern past the MAF. While my ODB app was showing a rich condition, I suspect the sensors were getting bad data and I was actually running lean for all that time.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this, or if all your fuel trim readings seem normal even with the modified intake. If you are seeing normal fuel trim numbers, what spec tubing are you using? And how did you plum that hose that connects to the intake?
 
The vacuum line that connects to the resonator box halfway up the tube is the 'vacuum' reference for the fuel pressure regulator. In stock form, that is basically a barometric pressure reference (it shouldn't change much with airflow, etc.).

Either that was somehow messed up with the way the bung was welded or there was an airflow leak causing unmetered air to enter the engine. Changes after the MAF shouldn't affect the accuracy of its readings.

I run an Airaid for my "ISR" mod just so I can be legal for smog...
