It doesn't want to start

I have a 2013 4Runner and I am having issues that it doesn't seem to want to start sometimes, for no reason... I get in the car, push the break down and push the start button and nothing happens. I thought at first it only happened when I left the vehicle and walked away and allowed the car to lock itself, but it happens even when I lock it manually.

Anyone else have this issue??? My dealer says to bring it in and leave it and they will check it until it happens to them. They said if the "check engine light" does not come on they can't use the computer diagnostic to identify the problem.

It can take up to 2 weeks in between each incident so I would be left without a car... can' t do that.

You might want to move this to the 5th Gen section. You'll get a lot more attention there.

You might want to stop referring to your 4Runner as “It” and start using “He” or possibly “She”. This could be the source of the issue. I just had this conversation with my 3 year-old.

"Nothing" as in no click, no attempt to turn over at all? I know nothing about the 5th gen, but in the 3rd and 4th gen that would lead me to check the neutral safety switch. Also, in the 4th gen, a bad EFI fuse could be the culprit. Assuming it's under warranty, your dealer should offer a loaner vehicle while they fix the issue. But, if it's as intermittent as you say it is, they won't be able to help much.

If you have an EFI fuse, I'd start with replacing it.

First of all, WELCOME to our forum and our little club! Second, [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION] is right: You should really consider moving this thread to the 5th Gen sub-forum so as to get WAY more exposure from 5th Gen owners who know your vehicle way better then the rest of us. Thirdly, your truck is still under warranty, right? I understand that you do not want to go two weeks without it, but your issue is going to be nearly impossible to diagnose via a forum as it sounds electrical. This means that it could be something as simply as a bad starter switch contact, to something as complicated as an ECU problem. The bottom line is that you need to let the techs at the dealer take a look at it, diagnose and repair it. Rent a car if you have to, in the meantime. It's not worth risking harming your vehicle, by guessing, when Toyota will do it all for you under warranty. My 2 cents.
