Someone said up-armor a Tacoma. Let me break it down for you. 5lbs of HME will shred an up armored HMMWV (Humvee for you non-mil jargon folks). 10lbs of HME can throw the engine out of the vehicle.

Almost all HME jugs are made with pressure cookers (10-15lbs), small oil jugs (25lbs), and large oil jugs (50+ lbs). Common tactic is to place a mine above, below, or between multiple jugs to act as a booster or initiator.

IEDs are no joke. Even in these vehicles you WILL get ****ed up. Almost lost a couple friends due to IEDs and mines. Hopefully the new ones are better and you can get out of them faster in the event of a fire.

But the most effective option would be to pull out of these countries and stop creating and funding these groups and then having to fight them 5-10 years later. But then again that's exactly what the pentagon/CIA really wants - to keep their little game going. Military industrial complex is more than willing to oblige of course.

Seems like an awful large contract for a 4-seater vehicle. Keep in mind that does not include anything over the base vehicle. Still needs to be fitted with the commo equipment, jamming equipment, weapons systems, and extra armor (RPG Netting)... total cost is over $1 Million/ea

Why not go with an up-armored Tacoma? Start with the TRD Pro model and juice it up. Base cost $35,725 + $81,775 in upgrades = Four Military Grade Tacoma's for the price of one MATV...

Or do it with the Tundra TRD Pro $41,385 Base cost...

Tacoma = way better mobility, way better reliability, way better fuel economy, way easier exit/entry, way more affordable...

I guess that makes too much sense.

I wouldn't use a Tacoma, the frames aren't as robust as a Hilux's. Even then you'd need a different powertrain as even the Toyota diesels are too weak for effective propulsion. The other thing to consider is that a lot of these types of vehicles are being designed with V-Shaped hulls in mind and integrated with the frame; while essentially glorified skidplates, they're designed from the ground up with that in mind vs. just bolting a V-Plate on the bottom.

War... War never changes. Today we're in the Middle East; tomorrow they're on our backyard, the day after the new Soviet Powers are edging on our doorstep... It's human nature to kill each other, most every great innovation in this world has been spurred by military need. Bottom line, we're always going to be fighting someone and someone is always going to be fighting us, even better the military industrial complex will be supplying both sides and encouraging us to continue.

I would think they could build them for less than $1 million a piece. This is coming from the folks that buy $436 hammers however.

Some of those mini-van driving moms can get really mean if you don't get out of their way fast enough when they're calling their husband on the phone, while also making sure that their kids really got the *double* bacon cheeseburger with extra mayo, instead of just the regular one. If you don't say out of their way, then look out :ak472: :dance:


I've had few of these defenders before. They were fun, but the ride was too harsh, and the gas mileage was poor, so I donated them to charity.

This made my day! Point taken. These sound like horrendous conditions that require a mode of transportation above and beyond the capabilities of something purchased from the local auto dealer.
