Hi Everyone,

My dad has asked me to help him integrate his iphone 3G with his 2004 sport edition. As far as I know, there is no auxiliary input or ipod interface with the JBL system he has. He wants the iphone to play music/stream XM/etc. through the cars speakers. He also wants it to automatically shut off when he receives a phone call. When the call comes through, he'd like it to play through the speakers. He doesn't mind having to manually "answer" the phone by swiping the screen. He also doesn't mind having to speak loudly for the mic to hear his voice. What is the cheapest/easiest/most effective way to go about making this happen?

I don't have much experiance with 4r but I have a Blizsafe adapter in my Subaru and love it. My wife has one in her Civic that connects where the changer would go and it works great. I recommend them if they make something that works for his runner.

I have this thing installed in mine...it came with the truck when I bought it, and even though I considered yanking it because I have a nav system/bluetooth anyway, I'm going to keep it because it syncs my phone's phonebook every time it connects, plus adds bluetooth audio streaming, an iPhone dock, and SD card dock, a USB connector and an extra line in adapter. Basically, it functions almost exactly like Microsoft SYNC in Fords and, properly installed, seamlessly integrates hands-free phone, auxiliary/iDevice audio and a nav system. The pros of that setup outweigh the irritation I feel every time I see those lovely little buttons on my steering wheel column that I never use.

Things to note:

Mine DOES have an aux input, and I keep an extra audio cord plugged into it so I can have a silent channel to override.

It's finicky about the order of connection. You can't plug the iPhone into the dock cable before the phone connects via Bluetooth or iPod functionality doesn't work well. Similarly, you may want to unplug the iPhone when you shut a car off, because the same little glitch happens if it's plugged in when you start the car.

Your only voice option is is a female British woman that likes to say "Mum" instead of "Mom."

Other than that, I can tell you I'll sit with the engine cut and finish a conversation in the comfort of my truck rather than get down and hold the phone to my ear more often than not. That's how sweet this system is.

edit: I know it's not a cheap solution, but I've fought the bluetooth phone/iPod audio issue for years. The problems always end up being less that I have to speak loudly and more other people couldn't hear me. May be worth saving pennies/holiday presents for.
