Jaos rear spoiler installed - Finally!

Mine's on there pretty solid. It doesn't move around. The scratching happened when I was initially installing it. Did you have to drill out the hole in the plate for the OEM wiring? How did you plug that hole and the hole in the spoiler itself?

I drilled out the hole and fed the wire through then sealed with silicone. I wasnt too worried about the hole in the spoiler, as its all fiberglass and won't rust out

aside from the shoddy install hardware, i am 1000% satisfied with my Jaos spoiler.

The plus side to the hardware is that the installation is very easily reverseable, and it's in no way permanent. That's what I like about it and thats enough of a reason for me to put up with it.

Take those factory screws out and fill the holes with clear silicone, it should sit alot higher and tighter

I agree with LINY.

These didn't come with the best design for mounting, but if I don't look at the roof the metal brackets don't bother me too much.

When I had mines installed, the brackets scratched my paint too, but at least it didn't go through to the bare metal.

Those straps connect to the spoiler somehow, take it off and look at where things line up and see if u can get a metal plate to attach to the spoiler then attach to the existing holes for your old spoiler. If you are going to leave it and have to patch the holes, try using a fiber glass filler (some call it kitty litter) it's like a paste with fiberglass in it, you can work it in to the holes, sand it smooth and paint it.

Nothing against you, but some mods I am glad other people try and show us so we can help and learn what to/not to do.

Either way, it does what you bought it for, It looks cool!

I took it all apart today and painted those brackets and took those screws out and sealed those holes, but the only thing I gained was a refresher in bending brackets and stripping cheap screws. I took pictures after and it looks like it sits exactly the same to me. I did put a piece of duct tape on the brackets so they wouldn't be in direct contact with the paint.

I have a feeling I got bad brackets. They just don't seem to fit right. If it gets loose I might take molson's advice and fabricate some new ones that use the factory bolt locations. And you're absolutely right about waiting until someone else spends the money...that's smart!

you can bend the brackets to get a better fit, i think that may be why they're so thin, to make up for differences

Where did you get that?!?! I want to get the Aura grill for my 4runner but the only two places I could find are burtman industries and a shop on ebay. plus good looking 3rd gen my friend with a white limited whats the same spoiler.

Wanted to updated you all that I'm re-doing this spoiler, and it won't have any brackets. It will now be a bolt on and look much cleaner and I can now offer it painted! How many would be interested. I can only make 10 at a time, and have quite a few that want them.

The old mounting design is well, old. The benefit of a bolt on will be it can't be stolen, and will be car wash friendly with no chance of ever coming off.

Probably not. It's going to be a direct mold off the jaos one, just better mounting. It might be possible to move the "u" shaped legs to cover the holes for those with the old toyota deflector, but that may take away from the look of the orginal design.

As long as the new one bolts up to the factory holes, its a good idea. Drilling new holes = Bad news.

The mounting was my biggest complaint about the spoiler when I first put it on, but I have to say it has held on there thru 2 years of wheeling and about 80k miles...so I guess its ok!

No, because the new one will have metal tabs inside it for the screws to get into when it's fabricated.

As I said, I'll be able to offer them painted to match, which means you won't have to worry about getting it painted after you get it... I'm hoping to offer it around $299 painted. The old jaos one was $235 unpainted.

Those that think they want one, please chime in. I have to make 10+ at a time and need some people in the wings

Sorry, but it looks HORRIBLE from that top angle. Im tall so I would see that all the time. Those hangers are a joke. This thread saved me a lot of $. I have an SR5 w/ no factory spoiler and had been thinking about this..... not anymore.
