Japs- Urban Runner Build

Hello T4R.org,

I am starting a thread to document my slow build. I have built many cars in the past but never really did a build thread. So here is my first attempt.

I will update this first post to keep pictures recent and links to mod post.

Lets start with the thread that led to coming to purchasing my second 5th Gen: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/176936-10te-fj-now-14-te.html

So I went ahead and picked up this lightly used 4Runner in October(2014):

Within the first 2 days of owning it: I stripped the ugly chrome side steps, swapped out wheels and tires, and added 5% tint all around

This weekend I continued the "modding bug" and went ahead and added a Gobi Stealth Rack with a high lift mount and a gobi ladder:

And Lastly I added the forum sticker in sleeper mode.... BLACK ON BLACK

Thanks Fellas.

The Wheels are actually Bronze even though these pictures are catching some good sun reflection and do look overly gold

Love the Hi Lift, but what will you lift the vehicle from? Can you lift from the trailer hitch? I guess you can also lift with the wheel hooks if you have them.

I have lifted it from the rear tow hitch and it works well. Besides while it is still stock height the high lift would really only be used as a recovery tool to winch myself out if needed.

5100's are already here but did not have time to install them this weekend. I may wait until after Thanksgiving to install them since I will be driving the truck to NY for a hunting trip and don't really want to deal with the mpg loss before putting 3000 highway mile trip.

Other plans in the works are LED light bars on the gobi and couple of other things . I said on post one that this will be a slow build. I may have started quick but rome wasn't built in a day....

I don't think some realize what those wheels are. I do and they are nice! Weight?

Not sure of the weight... if I remember correctly 17.5 maybe a tad less...

i just looked them up. 17.2lbs

I do. My friend has a set on his 3rd Gen that he wheels. Yes he's a little crazy.

I have wheeled mine and they hold up like a champ! I wish I would have gotten all 5 to carry my spare on the rear bumper but with the wait on these... I am too impatient to wait 3-6 months for them to arrive from Japan

That's a pretty dangerous thing to do. Not very stable and the jack can go through your rear window. You're much better off getting a Lift Mate.

I agree- Hi- Lifts are dangerous all around if not used properly. I would normally use it on the sliders but since this truck does not have sliders yet than moot point I guess..

Real Volks!!!! :wow2:

They looks amazing. But I would never dare to go off-roading and scratch up such an expensive rim. I guess if I was staying on pavement I wouldn't mind having a set. Nice job. And bronze is the only color rim for me too...

Usually I'm mistaken, but I meant the wheels in this case.
Yeah, unfortunately there's no "facetious" font. I knew what you meant. See pic below.

This was a couple of weeks before deciding to move back to the 4Runner

and with a little bit of Mud ( as it should be):

Quick Update:

I added 5100's all around to give the truck a bit more clearance and stance. I decided to take it out for an afternoon ride after the suspension was done.
