Hey man I'm a senior in high school and got my 4R my junior year. I've put around 10,000 miles on it and now this forum is distracting me from me even doing my school work haha (I'm still an A B student though). I was wondering how you convinced your dad to allow you put on the lift cause that's my problem right now. I have all the tools and would pay for all of it. Got any ideas?

Haha I know exactly where you're at man. I convinced him I would start small, and just put the daystar spacer 2.5"/1.5 in with FJ coils, and with Spidertrax and wider tires, it wouldn't affect the geometry of the car very much. Now if he's really gung ho about you not doin it, may just wanna start with the daystar. From there I showed him lots of examples of other lifts in the Lift and Tire thread of how I wanted to upgrade to an actual suspension change, but also reassured him that that suspension change wouldn't give me much more lift, just a much more comfortable ride and a more effective offroading suspension. So from there I moved to the 885 and Superflex with bilsteins.

If I could do it all over again though, I'd show him lots of examples and get the good suspension first instead of the basic lift like the Daystar. So for you Id recommend doin Bilsteins all around, and the OME 884 with a .25" top plate spacer up front, and th superflexes in the rear. That way if he thinks the front is too high, you can take the spacer out and it'll knock off a half inch up front. The superflexes provide a good lift in the rear. Or check out Metaltechs LT dual rate coils that also give 2" lift but give even more rear articulation than the superflexes if you really need the extra offroad capability. Let me know wat other questions ya have.

Not to thread jack or anything but I was in the same boat. I finally just decided to order everything and hide it then one day I told my dad I was going to a buddies shop to change the oil and came back with a lifted 4runner haha. he wasn't mad at all and was surprised and said it actually looked good. He still whines about how loud my tires are every time he rides in it though.

Oh and jaybird nice runner I've used it as some inspiration for mine!

In the same boat as well here. I actually want to get a similar set up to Jaybird with 275/65's. But in my case I'm just gonna have to wait until next year when I'm at college since my dad is very much against me lifting it.

He wants me to save the value of it, plus he thinks things are going to get broken/screwed up if I lift it. IMO I'll be keeping my runner until it's not worth reselling, and if done right a 2.5-3 inch lift shouldn't be very problematic for the truck.
He is paying for my insurance/it's under his name though. So he kind of has the say in what I do to the truck until I buy the plan from him. [MENTION=87539]wnelax04sr5[/MENTION]

its understandable. honestly unless you buy cheap/crappy parts or install wrong, a lift really doesnt harm anything on the vehicle except your wallet

hahahahahahaha that had me laughing! My dad loves the way it looks. He just says do what you want but if you break it don't look at me. Plus I bought the car and it's under my name so I've got the majority vote(that's not me saying go against him because I'll always respect his opinion).

Hit 100,000 this weekend with Crayc! She's been mine for half of that, and I'm still lovin' every minute of it. I ordered the
Camburg Moog joint UCAs last week; they're on backorder currently. Looking for a little tighter steering, and more precise
alignments, as the past two times I've had them, I've had to return because of poor quality. Planning to do some touchup
on all the blacked out pieces in May, the emblems and wheels are both showing their age... And some new/properly
tinted taillights may follow suit.

Took a tour of the only Mercedes-Benz plant in North America recently. It really is fascinating how controlled and efficient
the current manufacturing processes are. Was able to follow a C400 from sheetmetal to finished product, so that was a
very cool experience. No devices allowed on the tour, but I did snap a few at the museum showcase.

Rear linkage and driveline for the F1. All carbon everything...
