JBA headers with air injection 13-15 4runner

How many of you have these shorty or long tube headers on your trucks? Some of our FJ colleagues are having problems with p2441 codes following installation of the shorties, (cut/weld on stock cats). This is a specific air injection code. Trying to see if there are others with these headers out there. JBA says out of 35+ headers with air injection tubes sold, only two shorty sets have had issues which they say is due to extra flashing in the air tubes.

I'm interested in a set of 304 stainless long tube headers. The entire headers including the collector, flanges, tubing are 100% 304 stainless. The TRD headers for the 3rd gen 3.4L were made of the same material. Needless to say, the set on my 2000 sport edition never rusted and performed flawlessly.

Trying to see if any of you have or know someone that has these headers, (shorty or long tubes), on their trucks. Would like to know if these are causing the same problems the FJ guys are encountering, and whether it's even an issue on the long tubes.

I would say check with guys at Urd usa , Gadget seems to have been dealing with all kinds of headers including their own special builds ?

harper7 has long tubes, I believe

I had DT long tube the first couple of years . Took them off when I failed emissions and that was even with the SIM's for the front O2 sensors to fix the codes. Too much of a pain to swap them every year so I sold them to a guy on the FJ forum.

Seat of my pants dyno estimated about 10-15hp!:driving:

Sent gadget an email. It is reassuring to know that Gadget sold a bunch of these with air tubes and has yet to hear of a problem.

I just want to hear directly from the horses mouth so to speak. Any of you with air injection and aftermarket headers please speak up.

I had a set on my 13 Tacoma (w/air injection). I bought them used and they were still in decent shape. I ended up painting them black so they wouldnt stand out during our vehicle inspections here. I ran URD o2 sims and never had an issue. One suggestion I would make is to order a URD collector flange gasket or you'll never get it to seal right...unless your running their y-pipe. After the install you definitely notice a difference. You'll lose a little bottom end but at cruising speed its a whole new animal.

And as harper said theyre a real pain in the ass to install. It took me about 8 hours or so to do.

Thanks for the tip. Glad to hear these worked out for the taco.

Weird. I had the short DT (from URD) on my '07 FJ and never had a problem. I only read through the first few posts on the FJ forums. Didnt know anything about actual gains, but the since I had the TRD exhaust and intake, I added the headers to finish off the system... the sound was great. If anything Gadget will figure it out. His customer service has always been top notch.

Not headers but I did install this just a few hours ago. So far so good and it definitely feels a little less tankish than before. I talked to Gadget about the factory Y and decided to try one of his since it's a easy install and doesn't hang so low too rub on the skid plate. Taking off all of my skids probably took longer and it helped to have the truck lifted to clear the god awful factory driver side exhaust leg. I did add some heat shields on it so it wouldn't radiate heat on the trans pan, so far my scan gauge shows pretty much the same temp as before the pipe. This truck has a stock exhaust and no intake so it's just a tad louder. Any way time will tell if it's a worth while mod but at least I won't have to hear it rattle against the skid anymore. :flamethrwoer2:

Nice! I will be ordering the full URD spec u exhaust this weekend. Holding off on the JBA's until I hear more feedback.

Edit: Order placed. Will get a baseline Dyno right before installation. Will arrange a followup Dyno immediately after.

I would have liked to have gone with that setup but I am swapping rear bumpers and will reroute the tail pipe so no go for me. I have to admit the URD is a real quality piece I have installed tons of high end headers and exhaust over the years and this was a perfect fit. I think you will be more than happy with the Spec u system. Here are some shots of the exhaust with the trans skid installed lot's of clearance! It's also weird not seeing the exhaust hanging down below the cross member.

Rear of cross member with no more exhaust hanging behind it it's just all tucked up forward of it...

Just took a peek at the y pipe to see what I would encounter for installation. There is a serious bottleneck on the stock y, (pic below)... Not surprised to hear you can feel a difference. This is in line with what others have said that have installed the URD Y on their tacos. Gadget was able to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 34 rwhp with intake, exhaust, URD Y, and a tune. I'm sure this will net something positive.

Yup it looks like a GM f body Y pipe lol.. Talking to Gadget there is another restriction to that section of the exhaust as well there are actually two pipes one inside the other. I guess Toyota did this to make the pipe a bit harder to crush since it sits so low. Here is a crappy photo taken from inside showing the second pipe so the outside diameter is no where near as small as the inside.

Yeah... This pipe needs to go.
