JBL Enclosure Volume

Here's a good one. I have been searching for the internal volume of the factory JBL enclosure and found an old thread that says it is 17 liters. (.60 cuft) Has anyone actually measured this?? I installed a JL 8w1 in the stock enclosure and it sounds ok. It is rated to run in a .375 cuft sealed enclosure. It sounds like a sub that is in a box that's too big. Good low end but no punch. So this is why I'm asking if anyone knows for sure what the stock enclosure volume is.

I'm interested to know this as well, I have a JL 8w3 waiting to go in a JBL enclosure

As soon as I have time I'm going to pull the enclosure out and fill it with something I can measure. When I do that I will report my findings.

I think the JBL enclosure will be too be big for that 8w3 sealed. Might work ported.

I'm going to guess it comes in somewhere between 13 ~ 14 liters.

Remember to deduct the displacement of the speaker from the enclosure volume.

There's no way the factory enclosure is 1.2 cuft. Its just not that big.

Around .6 seems to be the number I've seen before, but I've not tried measuring that. One of the things on my to do list it's to pull the sub and add something to reduce the volume and dynamat the enclosure/surrounding panels.

Reducing the enclosure volume should make a huge improvement in sound quality since the specs for our 8w1's call for .375 cuft. Output should increase slightly as well.

I've thought about this, but rather than enlarge the opening, it makes more sense to sell the enclosure to someone that wants it for a retrofit, and put your own custom stealth box style in for a 12". Not sure what 12's would like .6 cu/ft if that is indeed correct.

But I wasn't really talking about the size of the opening. I was talking about the internal volume.

Can someone chime in?

My subwoofer grille is cracked. I wanted to put my 12" in the factory location and put the 12" grille on to cover up the damage.
