JBL or Not JBL?

How do I know if I have a JBL unit.
Mine is a 2005 4runner sr5 4x2.
With a single CD head unit.
If I want to install Scion CD player w MP3.

Would it work ?

Look on your window sticker for JBL. Also, the HU and the speakers should have JBL written on them somewhere if you have it.

I have no signs anywere. I havent checked the speakers. But Ill try.

All it says on my stereo is Toyota.

Then its probably the stock radio. You know if you have JBL if your door speakers have JBL on them. Also the radio itself will say JBL. I think the 2005+ JBL has 8 Speaker (10 in the 2k3-2k4) versus 6 speakers in the stock radio.

Easiest way is to check the door speakers to see if they're labeled with "JBL Synthesis" or the upper right hand corner of the stereo for the JBL logo. Also, if you have a speaker on top of the dashboard in the center or speakers in the rear cargo with a sub in the right hand side storage compartment of the cargo area, it's a JBL.

If not, you have the standard CD player.

Yes the JBL has the center speaker in the front console and you'd be missing the mirrors in the upper back corners of your 4Runner. In their place would be two additional speakers.

The 2005+ JBL's also have 10 speakers, but is not very impressive.

I doubt his 2005 4runner sr5 4x2 has JBL. Not to offend anyone but people usually put JBL on the higher trim levels.

I haven't heard the non-jbl system (in the 4run) so I can't really compare the sound quality.

I have (not installed anymore) the 10 spker JLB and it was not flush. (did not need any adapter to install NAV) But... I do have a very early 03 and there are lots of non-standard things about my 4Runner.

I am almost halfway jealous that you do not have the JBL system. With the JBL system I am a little stuck since it seems like it does so much with rear-seat entertainment and all.

But with the non-JBL, I would not hesitate to just get in there and put an aftermarket HU in there and upgrade all the speakers and add amps and a sub.

I added a sony AMP and 2 10" subs. I think the JBL system lacks bass and now I've cured that part.

What would you guys suggest!
I want a drop down LCD in the back something like a 10 inch
front I dont need screen but I would like a good DVD head unit w remote. Also I want the full surround sound ability so Im gonna need a processor and amp.
oh I should probably get DVD HU with MP3 and a RCA in front for my HIMD or iPod plug input.
I already ordered a leather package from Katzkinz in California.
My 20 inch rims are ready to be mounted. Just need to pick out tires. Plus I want to drop the 4runner a few inches hense it beeing 2 wheel drive Im not going off road anyways.

Now that I think about it I have alot of work.

p.s. I also ordered the heating seats package from KatSkinz.
