jbmccul's Build Thread

The trips with your runner and group of other toyo friends looks like a complete blast!! Super jealous, I hope to do something like that one day. Love the pics, keep 'em coming!

Thanks! I try to get out 6-8 times a year while I can. My 4Runner still has a long way to go but it's getting there!

Some pictures from wheeling this weekend

So after much contemplation I've reworked the direction I want to go with my build. I've decided just to tie up a few loose ends on my 4Runner and just stick to a little bit of light wheeling until I graduate. Then, I'm looking to pick up a 2013 FJ TT SE in Cement Gray and mod that up into my go anywhere rig and sell the 4Runner.

Here is the amended mod list as it sits now.

Suspension
All-Pro Lower Links
All-Pro Lower Link Mount Skids (Front and Rear)
All-Pro Upper Links
Light Racing Upper Control Arms

Armor
CBI Offroad Bolt-On Sliders w/ Kickout
4Plus Engine Skid
4Plus Transmission Skid
Boztec Rear Diff Skid

Outfitting
GOBI Ladder

Lighting
Trail Worthy Fab 30” LED Lightbar

Thoughts?

Sounds like a ton of stuff just to sell it in possibly 2 years:-( but hey, that's an awesome list and if you do sell the 4runner, I'm sure we'd be glad to help you part all that out;-)

Probably closer to 3 years from selling it. And yes, I don't think I'd have any problem parting her out.

This is gonna be the next rig to get built, 4x4 included

You know it's funny cause I used to see these Fj's and I really hated the way they look. When you see one all done up like this, they're pretty bad a$$.

Yeah, and I already have a crazy long Mod list for the FJ that's still a few years away

Hahaha, y'all get to come down here this year!

And actually, that's only a fraction of our group. Between Cajun Yotas and Louisiana Land Krewesers we probably have about 50 active members.

This was at our monthly meeting at Twin Peaks

gah man theres just nowhere here to ride or nowhere in a decent driving distance where we can get a group of guys to meet up (haven't really tried though) going to try to get a south eastern camping/ride trip up when it cools down some more just gotta find somewhere where we can camp and are some good riding places close by. If you know anywhere in the "bayou" haha feel free to shoot it my way.

Try Catahoula ORV in Sicily Island, LA. It's near Natchez, MS.

Or we could do a trip to Kisatchie National Forest

Ordering 2 of the 6" BlitzPro LED bars for the side of my roof rack as soon as they get them back in stock

Started to work on the cargo drawers for the 4Runner in hopes of having it completed for my wheeling trip at the end of the month. I started with some basic measurements that I got from Dusty Driftwood that were as follows.

Outer Measurements
40" Wide
32.75" Deep
8.5" Tall
Drawer Measurements
17.25" Wide
30.75" Deep
7.25" Tall

I am building mine to work in conjunction with my double-decker cargo system, allowing me to not loose too much hauling capacity.

Here is a link to the drawers I'm using as a template.
4th Gen Custom Cargo Container

Planning to have the drawers not only slide out, but open from the top to allow access with the rear window rolled down. I'll be using 1/2" and 3/4" plywood to build the drawers.

Started off with some quick sketches on paper to get an idea of how to lay everything out.

Then sketched it out full size to make sure I hadn't made any calculation errors.

Gonna head to the store tomorrow to but the wood and, if the weather cooperates, start getting some of the pieces cut out. I'll keep this post updated with the progress.

Went out and got the wood today at Home Depot. One sheet of 1/2" MDF and one sheet of 3/4" MDF. They were a little big for the 4Runner so I had to get creative.

Needless to say it was a fun ride home.

12/23/12

Had a buddy of mine come over and help me cut the wood. Got everything mocked up and in place. Just need to sand down a few of the rough edges and paint tomorrow and it should be done.

About 90% done.
Got all of the wood screwed together and in place. Now all that's left is to carpet and bedline it and fill it up!
