Not too sure about keeping the blue. I got a good deal on the car when I bought it as a poor college student, although it has grown on me.
I love black cars, but between the heat and the insane amounts of dust here I just can't do it. My buddy has a black impala and it always looks dirty half a day after you wash it. Hmmm...

Funny you bring that up. I just saw where absalom's buddy monstalined his 3rd gen. Looked good but not my taste.
There is a part of me that would love to take it down to bare steel and clear coat it.
I'm restoring an old table saw right now and just getting to paint the cabinet and the idea is tempting.
Then I could add a flux capacitor...

What is that wrapped up in there, fishing line? Messy, but not hard to reboot. Simpler to replace, but I wasn't happy with the boot quality on the ones I replaced, either. Dunno on the Toyota boots as they haven't been on there long enough to have formed an opinion.
Evergreen pearl. Looks pretty good, but you certainly won't be instantly recognized.

I'll be dipped. I didn't pay too much attention to it. Once I saw all the grease I went inside and ordered new oem boots along with new brake pads and shoes. I just thought it was grass.
About two weeks ago I drive party easy into a lake to jump start my father in laws boat. I looked closer at the picture then went outside and it is fishing line. Go figure.

Well I painted something but it wasn't the 4runner, or at least not all of it.
I went with the blue to match the Kings. The pictures I saw on the internet led me to believe it was a better match, but oh well. Not worth doing over.
The rig has been down for almost 2 weeks. I rebooted my other OEM cv axle to replace the fishlined one, but didn't tighten the outside clamp of the outerboot enough.
I noticed this a few days later when I went to rebuild the calipers because the pads were wearing very unevenly.
The calipers have now been rebuilt and painted. I ordered the seal kit from my dealership about 6 weeks ago and I could have swore I put it in the center console, but once I got the calipers off and torn apart the seal kit was nowhere to be found. So I had to order another one. 3 days of waiting. This consequently meant that the 4runner did not go on the spring break road trip, so the Prius went instead. Much cheaper, but not as much fun or comfortable.
Then after I got the new seal kit in I was taking the passenger caliper off the hard line broke, so I ordered more parts. Today I got the new hardline in, along with new slide pins. The old ones were pretty grody and one was slightly bent and gouged, so I just got new ones. I couldn't find the part number for the slide pins anywhere so here it is: 90240-06158 (231mm WL calipers).
So now all I need to do is wait for the paint to dry, repack the outer cv boot and get a new clamp. Hopefully soon.
On the painting the rig note I'm having a hard time scheduling a passport appointment with our local post office. Their hours don't overlap with my free time very well. Oh well. Someday.
On another note one of these should be coming soon. Excited to test it out.

It's not metallic, and it is much darker than it seems in the picture. I'll get some better pictures before I install the wheels.
About the rear cupholder, I figure if I'm stealing his picture I should probably post to his thread too.

Cant wait to get the cup holder. Never had one since I bought my rig and wife dont like idea of his front holder.

I've had mine in for several weeks. I went from only have the broken ven ac when I bought it, to now having 3 3d printed cupholders, plus 2 in my 99+ console swap. It's great!
The breaks took longer than expected (I lost the caliper rebuild kit and found it after I had ordered and installed the other one.) But well worth it.
This happened a while ago. My sister was driving it and I forgot to tell her to reset the trip meter right at 222,000 miles so this was the best I could do.
I've been out wheeling twice in the last month. The first time was at the corral canyon OHV park. I've wanted to go since I saw the signs for it, but it turns out it's really just for ATV's and dirt bikes. Way too narrow for even a 3rd gen. I got a fair amount of custom pinstriping, which doesn't bother me too much since it'll be painted soonish. Passport should be here in a few weeks.

And here's a copy of the post I made in the Socal section for our trip up to Big Bear yesterday. 27 rigs made for slow going but it was a good day. Got on the trail about 10am and finished about 6pm. Played around in Big Bear, let the kids stretch their legs and home at 11.

We started off driving through mostly Joshua trees
That transitioned into some pinion pine and got a little rocky.
I didn't take any pics of the 1st good rocky hill climb. In fact next pics I have are right after lunch. Lining up to drive through the Valley. 35mph was great.
After we crossed the 18 the scenery was much better and the weather was cooler.
Here's overlooking what I think used to be Baldwin lake
The last difficult part was going through the squeeze. 5th gens were a tight fit.
Third gens had plenty of room.
I had smelt something funny for during the afternoon. I know my valve covers are leaky so hot oil smell is always present, but this was different. I stopped and checked all under hood fluids and everything seemed fine, then after the squeeze I found this.
Apparently somewhere along the line I blew both rear axle seals. Guess I can't really complain after 223k miles.
Seems like an okay job thanks to another great write up to BFAD.
I think the only other carnage was a ripped out shock at the beginning, with a ratchet strap becoming a spring retainer afterword. He finished the entire trail with 3 shocks for about 6 hours. There was also a bent bumper on an 85, and I think someone had a broken window. Not too bad.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the "daycare" assessment.
That looks like it would be a really fun trail run. I saw quite a few obstacles in there that looked challenging, but at the same time family friendly. Just hairy enough to make the Wife/GF/kids scream, you know?
That sucks about the axle seals, but if they both went at the same time it probably had something to do with the heat and maybe the breather not relieving the pressure properly. You might get away with cleaning things up and just replacing the seals if you get to it quickly.
You've done some nice upgrades on the rig in the last year (I've been following), and it's good to see you out there putting them to good use.
