Lol. Another shot from today, this was a brand new vehicle. Noticed a lot of weld spatter too.

I have been seeing threads about this on the JL forum too. I have been to the Jeep dealership near me investigating. Almost every JL Sahara and JL Rubicon I saw was covered with ugly welds.

Oh damn! I assumed that was the one on where the guys front track bar ripped off the frame while on the freeway..nope.

Depending on how severe the porosity is, it can significantly effect the strength of the weld as well as effect ductility of the metal that it's joining together. It can be caused by a number of things but most commonly it's caused by air entering the weld or welding dirty or greasy metal. I'm a little surprised that they didn't catch the issue. I wouldn't be too concerned with the weld spatter, while messy looking, it doesn't affect weld strength but it could be an indication of dirty metal, or improper weld settings.
From a boiler NDT point of view, we would automatically reject any weld that looks anything like that.

We bailed this car company out with our tax dollars and then we were convinced it’s a great idea to sell them to the Italians.
If this is how they launch and all new model, criminal investigations are warranted.
I was genuinely interested in buying one of these, but there is no way in hell I will give any money to FCA.

Since I'm fairly certain these are welded by a robot, this is surprising.

I might weld a dozen or so times a year and my shit looks better than that.

I’m guessing those welds are coming out of Tower, a frame company in China.
And then Toyota wonders why we are pissed off about getting parts for our trucks sourced out of China.

I wonder how those frame welds look? I would be very concerned if I bought a vehicle and the frame welds had porosity like that.

Probably just like the ones on the JL.
There is one new 1500 at the local dealer, I got close enough to see that it was near $54K and wasn't interested anymore.

That's messed up. Pay all that money and 700 miles in you're dealing with that nonsense? QUALITY control seems to be more of the exception these days. And if anyone thinks things will get better: they won't. Greed is the root of all of this. Let's cut corners and mark up the price. I'm glad I have my 4Runner, flaws and all.
