John's 99 4runner rebuild/build

Got the bumper bolted on. The swing out is almost done, at least the hard parts.


Swing out spindle, 1-1/2" stainless drilled and tapped for M16x1.25 threads. Teflon pad for swing out to ride on. I used all stainless and Teflon on the hinge for low to no maintenance, no bearings, no grease and no rust.

The latch, stop and 3-1/2x4x1/4" Teflon pad for the swing out to rest on.

3-1/2x4x1/4" teflon pad in the middle to support the weight of the spare tire.

Now if I only had a tube bender and the skills to fab some corner protection I would be set.

Almost finished product.

LED tag light from DDMtuning, still got to tidy up the wires.

Tag plate made of 1/2" aluminum milled down to 1/4" where the tag goes. Put some holes in it to lighten it up a bit. Still got to clear coat it.

Used 3/8" brake line for a conduit to run the wires to the tag light secured with stainless straps and M4 bolts.

I used a receiver hitch lock for spare tire security.

It took so many hours to build there is no way to price it low enough not to offend. I have close to 100 hrs in that bumper, lots of drawing time, layout and cutting not to mention the machine work. All in all it's not that hard to do but is very time consuming.

Do you have access to any metal working tools?

I can't remember if you mentioned the exhaust being finished up yet... If so, can you snap some pics of how you routed it around with the passenger front output on the tcase?

I saw this little mod over at ih8mud. I put a 1/4 compressed air filter/separator in line with the PCV valve to catch oil mist and it works really well. It is mounted on the side of the air box. These pics are after a couple thousand miles. Instead of sucking the oil mist into the intake it catches it in the filter bowl.

cool. id like to see your results with this. this is something i have been wanting to do for some time, but its been a back burner type of deal, so far back infact that i honestly had forgot about it until i saw your post... i had done this to my old 85 truck and it worked wonders...

Seems like an easy way to help keep the combustion chamber clean and the way a lot of us here on t4r like to take care of our machines it's a no brainer to me. I was really surprised that it would catch so much.
