I did the same thing. I only have 1 little guy who is 3 and he loves it. The first time I did a run was last weekend and he had fun before he fell asleep. My kid is crazy and I have been reluctant too, but if he isnt exposed he will never know and want to bury his head in electronics than the outdoors.

He's probably still going to bury his head in electronics, but all you can do is negate it by being out as much as possible. My son still prefers to sit and play games when we're at stops, so I just let him play until the battery dies on his tablet and then I don't recharge it.

That's what started my offroad build with the 03 4runner "Lola" is my boys. Everyone in the group knows my boys CJ and Cai. They will be do anything for you guys, run ahead to take pictures, look at a rig that's stuck or go to every rig and see what they can scrounge to eat..HEHE!! They love offroading and camping. They asked me last night when is the next trip. Got to figure that out. Anyone have plans to offroad columbus day weekend?

I may be in for a easy day run that weekend. I want to start taking my 3 yr old on runs without my wife to get him used to it and give her a break...and my wife is 7 months prego so off-roading isn't the best idea for her right now.

I appreciate the comments guys. Like a couple of you mentioned, I'm making a noble attempt at the electronics battle. I figure if they can't plug it in, we're good! They both LOVE camping so we're trying to get out more often. It'll be more frequent once I stop adding more projects on the 4Runner.

I'm stoked to see some other dads with young kids on here. One of the reasons we bought the 4Runner was to do more camping with our boys (4 and 7 y.o.) away from the crowded SoCal campgrounds. We've only had the rig a few months, but during that time I've skipped some overnight and day trips with various groups due to my reluctance to bring younger kids along. It would be great to organize a trip that is truly "family friendly."

Honestly man, I haven't had a single issue camping with any of these guys across T4R or TW, with or without other kids being around. Everyone has been really tolerant and even helpful with my son (I'm a single dad), and sure there's going to be some language but otherwise it's always been family friendly. Obviously having other kids to keep each other occupied allows for more adult relaxation though.

I'm thinking about White mountain due to not being able to do it with my 2wd unless you have a run idea [MENTION=77357]85straight[/MENTION] or [MENTION=117408]Oneluv13T4R[/MENTION]. I'm also thinking about camping at Serrano campground closer to the lake. I think it' would be nice with the kids and wife. A little glamping. Let me know.

Pretty easy to find once you hit the dirt road. There's some fun wheeling back there too and all the sites are pretty well spread out or divided by the boulder piles. Didn't see a single ranger for almost 3 days, and we were there on a busier spring break weekend. We honestly couldn't see or hear any of the other camp sites and there were a couple big groups partying just as much as we were.

You mentioned below that there are more than you don't know the exact location of-is there any site that has the coordinates for all of these? I live a couple hours from JT and while I've stayed at the known campsites in/out of the park, I've never known how to find the more secluded ones.

These particular locations are word of mouth, I doubt you're going to find anything anywhere on the internet about them.

Places I haven't been are around Old Dale Mining district and should have multiple campsites, but I've never actually camped in that area and haven't explored it. Before you actually enter the park off of the 62 at Gold Crown Road, that's all BLM land, so theoretically you could camp anywhere in that area. Gold Crown Road turns into Old Dale Road at some point after you enter JTNP.

Only way you're going to find a lot of these are to get out and explore.

I'm down for anything. Keep me posted on a date. First weekend is a no go for me in October but the rest is good to go.

Are both of these in Joshua Tree? Or are you talking about another location?

I can potentially do October 9 but not the weekend of the 15th. Possibly the weekend of the 24th, maybe for one over night for all the new kiddos to experience. My four year old went camping when he was 1 lol so he doesn't remember much

Pretty much 2wd friendly. There is a section further past some of the sites that may be a little hairy with deep sand, but there aren't any sites back there I don't think.

I would say don't go too much further past 34.109929, -116.275504 The road goes down to the national park boundary and then loops back up around. On the loop back around there's a sandy wash with a "S" curve between two boulders that makes it hard to keep momentum. That's likely the only place you'll get stuck in 2wd.

I remember my ex and I camped in Joshua Tree on the south end one year. Late November/Early December, and her hair was frozen when we got up in the morning. Gets a little chilly at night there in the winter time for sure.
