you should be fine. you may not get in at jumbo rocks or hidden valley, but there are so many campgrounds inside the park. white tank is a good one. have fun!

There's always the area I posted a couple pages back. All sorts of dispersed camping that's very very likely to be wide open.

black rock and indian cove are the only reserveable (is that even a word?) campgrounds in the park, everything else is first-come-first-served. hidden valley is the rock climber's playground so it will more than likely be full that time of year, and jumbo rocks is a whimsical hippie blogging instagrammer's mecca so it's usually very busy too. but just about every campsite there is made up of dirt and rocks, so you'll have fun either way. lots of dirt roads to go exploring on, but nothing that really requires 4WD. if you really can't find a spot, there are the maps posted earlier in this thread that you can refer to.

Nice! We're headed out super early Saturday morning. Should be arriving by sunrise.

i would just start with the first one and move on from there... hidden valley → ryan → sheep pass → and on and on... do a loop through each one and if anybody's awake or making breakfast/coffee, see if they happen to be leaving or staying. sometimes you can snag a spot when people are heading out. good luck!

I've gotten campsites along with the 14 day park pass by wandering around the campgrounds. Looks for the hippies, they're usually your best bet, haha.

hell, if someone's nice enough you could even offer them $20 and some bourbon/beer/whatevs to take up the other tent spot at their site. make some friends.

Cottonwood is first come first serve and typically far enough removed from the main north side attractions that it has spots, did you check there? South of the 10 on Mecca is all BLM land, as well as south of the 10 at Chiraco Summit. Did you check the dirt sites up on the north end for the coordinates I posted?

We ended up having 3 trucks and a Prius with us. BLM would've been awesome but didn't have a fire permit to cook or start a fire (I have one now haha). Found service on some rock while having lunch in the park and searched air Bnb. We were all able to camp on some lady's 10 acre property next to the BLM north of the park.

Onto the next trip.

Probably could have gotten a fire permit at the ranger station at Cottonwood. They usually have stuff like that. Prius probably could have made the camp grounds in the north end (note we didn't need a fire permit) We had an x-runner come up the trail, and it was probably lower to the ground than a prius, haha.
