It appears that your t case leak is from one or both of the output shafts. Have you checked the level of the fluid in the transfer case? Should be able feel the oil towards the top when you remove the fill plug and inset a finger.

Give the transfer case a good bath and keep an eye on it. The leak should be easy to diagnose once things are clean down there.

My transfer looked similar and I had to replace both output seals(front and back).

Good luck.

I did check it and It was little low, so I topped it off. Ill go ahead and clean it this afternoon and check later to see what's going on down there. There is a writeup somewhere here where the output seals were replaced...How long did it take you to replace the seals from start to finish?

lol, pretty sure y'alls NM wheeling trip was in Las Cruces up at the end of Lohman near the hospital, right? I love cruising those powerline service trails. :D

Nice purchase!

haha You're right man! I've been looking into the LC rear wraps (8 or 9)..What's your thoughts on this?

I'm not really the one to ask, I don't have a lot of hands on experience with very many suspension setups. All I know is I installed a 7.5 wrap on a stock runner over Christmas and the rear end resulted in like 4-5" of lift, though I don't know if that number dropped after time; I would just be cautious of getting more lift from the LC springs than you want.

I followed the link you had above by BFAD: output shaft seals. One was easier then the other because I could get the impact gun on the u joint bolts. I stripped a couple of bolts on one side so that became its own adventure. Generally speaking I think it took about an hour per output seal. Handy tools for the job include a seal puller, seal drivers (or big sockets), ratchet strap (I think I had troubles compressing a drive shaft, the strap helped), and grease gun (I had troubles de-compressing the drive shaft as well, grease gun helped push).

Before replacing the seal and after cleaning my transfer I was able to see the drips from the seals, but I did drive it around while I was waiting on parts. Just make sure that you keep an eye on the fluid level.

Good luck!

I cleaned it that weekend real good, but i was to lazy to crawl back under there to find the source of the leak...:dizzy:

Small update on some mods that I forgot to mention in my first post due to the parts being at my gf dads shed and I was also planning to install them on my previous 4runner that I totaled (RIP).

I'll be doing a manual hub swap at my buddies shop once the weather get's a little warmer here in Arkansas. Also, this weekend I'll be putting in some new OEM lbj's, inner and outer tie rod ends on her and get and alignment as well. I'll post some pics of my parts later this weekend for you guys.

Hey buddy!!

Dude, the runner's really coming along!! Those pics we took in Santa Teresa NM wheeling really turned out nicely!! Keep me posted buddy!

Man its been a while since I updated this, but anyways I just finished ordering some Cooper ATPs in 285/75/16 and I'm going slap them on some Tundra rims that I snatched off JDWaldz. I'll go head and post pics of them once I get them installed this coming week. Well so far I fixed my squealing alternator belt, it just need to be snug and tight. I also replaced my rear o2 sensor and now I have P0141 code and I've been doing some research and its saying to replace the sensor, but I already have?:yell:...I doubt I have a bad connection to my ecu...Anybody have a solution to this?

Thank in adavance.

Tires

I have the same runner just a 1997 model. How do the 285's fit with the coil overs? I am trying to determine tire size on miine.

Quick update from this past weekend. I went ahead and installed my 285 Cooper AT3's on some tundra 5 spokes that JWaldz sold me. I went ahead and changed out my IACV gasket and ordered some NGK plugs and wires from Amazon and should be installing them this weekend. I also bought some lc80 series 7.5 wraps that I will pair with some Bilstein 5125's and be installing here in the next two weeks. Pictures to follow soon...

I know I have some rake, but I will be taking care of that here in the couple of weeks with some fj80 7.5 wraps and Bilstein 5125's.

The new Tundra wheels

Looks good and I think you're the first guy I've seen with those Tundra wheels. Did you ever get a measurement of the ATP's height? Doesn't matter now since I got the Duratracs, but I'm still interested.

I have the same tundra wheels.. I picked them up off craigslist but have never ever seen them before. Then 15 minutes after buying them I saw a tundra that had them ironically.

Well well well. It has been years since I updated this thread and a lot has changed over the years. I still have the same rig and at some point I thought about selling her but decided to keep her till the wheels fall off :guitar3:

2020 was a great year(no pun intended) with me working from home and had all the time to work on the rig since I hardly drove her. I did a complete suspension overhaual with 5100 Billies, JBA UCAs, OEM R/P, Whiteline bushings on front/rear arms and BX retrofits with and to top her off- an Addicted Off-road bumper!:guitar3:

I recently did a round trip from Arkansas to Idaho and put about 5k on her in less than 2 weeks. The only hiccup I had was when I was pulling into Denver, the battery light came on and had to limp her to O'rielly's and 30 min later...a new alternator was in(returned "bad new" alternator and had my orginal one rebuilt and put back in her).

I'll try to update this thread more often but here is a pic of my rig in the Teton's :car:

Since the weather was nice today, decided to go ahead and change the oil on the old girl and add some Rain-x De-icer fluid to the reservoir since its starting to get colder here in AR. If you show them lots of love, they'll last you many years to come! Currently at 296k and inching closer to the 300k club:nod:
