Just bought a 2004 Sport Edition. Did I get a good deal?

New to the site and looking for some advice. I just bought a 2004 sport Edition with 88890 miles. The car itself is immaculate. Excellent interior and exterior. No damage anywhere. Came back with a clean carfx report and only one owner. I bought it for $11,600. Did I get a good deal? What should I look for or expect to replace/repair in the near future.

Sounds like a great deal to me! I picked up my 03 Limited 4x4 (completely loaded) with 120k miles for $11500 a few months back, and I've yet to see another in the same price range. As far as replace, you will need the timing belt/water pump and supporting stuff (not too familar with it personally) pretty soon. That's the big one and could run into some money. Other than that, not too sure. Welcome to the forums, these guys are full of great info!

Did you get it private party or from a used car dealership? The price sounds about right though. One thing about 4runners is they could have like 200,000 miles on them and someone will still buy it!

I would spend a little money on preventive maintenence such as a new battery or whatever but if you take care of her she will last forever.

I bought mine a week ago.

2004 4runner V8 sport edition 4wd...perfect condition, 140K...CA freeway miles, from a friend for $9700.

Is yours a V6 or a V8?

It's a V8 and bought from a private dealership that sells both used and new cars but they are not brand specific.

Id look into getting an extended waranty, but seems like a pretty good deal, now take it out and wheel the thing lol

Check to make sure the center diff. lock works, and that it goes into 4Lo properly.

Sigh...this whole thread makes me realize just how horrible an investment a car is. 5 years ago an SUVs like this were selling in the mid thirty thousand range. Now they are selling for over $20,000 less.

that may be, but if that actuator goes out, thats a $2500 repair, buying used, you never REALLY know what your buying, and MOST people dont wheel these, so chances are that his rig has NEVER been in 4Lo not to mention the Center diff being engaged... if it freezes up, Im sure its not cheap to fix..

Automobiles (generally) are not investments. They are consumables and depreciate. As long as you don't get in debt over it, it is a worthwhile expense - especially if you buy used. But I know how you feel, especillay when you know that a replacement costs way more than the insurance company values it at.

Can I buy an extended warranty from toyota even though it was purchased from a private dealership? If not, where is a good place to buy one? I looked up US Fidelis but they have a score of F from the Better Business Bureau so I would rather not deal with them.

4Lo is 4wheel drive LO, if you have a 2wd vehicle then you dont have 4Lo, lol

I think an extended warranty is absolutely worth getting, though you have to be careful with the company you use. We looked at this company when we were checking out trucks https://www.warrantydirect.com/
ended up buying the dealership warranty (which was something of a mistake because we could have gotten a waaaay better deal given the stuff that's available thanks to this forum...oh well).

The replacement master cylinder my truck needed pretty much has meant the warranty already paid for itself multiple times over.
