Just feel being so lucky that married a normal wife

it's kind of off-topic, but just want to share to everyone here.
friend of mine married to a very materialistic woman. they used to own a 99 MB ML and a 02 Bimmer 325. by the time my friend wants to replace his ML to something else, his wife only limited him on buying another newer ML, NO OTHER BRAND ACCEPTED! but see the thing is, she never drives the ML. so my friend ended up taking the 06 ML. and a month ago, he wants to replace his older 325i to something new, ie: lexus ES350 or maybe a 08 C-class. his wife ONLY would go to check out the new car with him IF HE IS GOING TO BMW DEALER!!!! she wouldn't get off the car if that is not a bimmer dealership!!!! she said she will only drive european brand and specially BMW only!!! mentioned that all Lexus/Toyota/Acura are japanese brand and they are cheap!!!! so my friend gave up the "blah blah blah" from his wife, end up getting a bimmer, but guess what, they are getting a 3 series again! that's what she only wants!
well, by ordering the right spec that she needed, sport package with xenon light on a 335i, the dealer would give them $42,000 plus tax. but the sales manager said if they will take the executive demo on the showroom floor which clocking at 8000 miles, 335i, but with ALL packages, every single package you can add to a 3 series, for $900 more which is $42,900. that particular fully loaded 335i MSRP was $48,xxx.
his wife said, "well, can we just order a new one? this demo has too much dust on it and i dont like it." i was like.......... WTF? what type of wife you married?
for me it is a very good deal to close. but just a thought his wife is too materialistic and just those type of mom wants to show off in front of other moms.

well, just an interesting story to share and just my thought. what do you guys think if that happen to you?

Your friend doesn't need to order a new vehicle, he needs to order a new wife. One without the bitching prissy spoiled fancy pants module installed.

I'm lucky, I asked my wife what type of vehicle she wanted to replace her POS Nissan Sentra. Her answer (verbatim):

"As long as it's reliable, gets me where I need to go, and back home safely."

To which I replied:

"Fine. We're getting a 4Runner. My money, my decision."

When time came to replace our aging '91 Acura, I asked what vehicle should we get. Her answer (verbatim):

"Whatever you want. It's your car"

To which I replied:

"Fine. We're getting another 4Runner. My money, my decision."

And we lived happily ever after, yadda, etc.

Honestly, he needs to get whatever car makes HIM happy since he will be the one driving it. No offense, but what a wuss for giving in to her. If she doesnt like it, she will get over it. Take this from a woman (but i would never tell my husband what to drive, etc) you gotta let them live their lives too and have some things they can call their own.

I'm going to sound like an ass for asking this but I don't care. What is the lady's nationality? I ask because I see alot of asian women doing the same thing to their husbands. There is a couple at our gym, the man is white and the woman is Phillipino. She throws a fit about having everything new and "makes" her husband buy Mercedes vehicles and recently had him buy a gd Viper, which, might I had, she has NO CLUE how to drive. AND, to make things worse, she "makes" him send money back home to HER gd family every month. This is only one example of many. I can't help but think the situation is culturally bised...

We're all materialistic to some degree. We mostly drive 4th gen runners, very expensive vehicles. I spend tons of money on fishing, hunting and camping gear, and I certainly have my preferences as far as brands and quality go. The husband in your story sounds a bit spineless. But if he can afford those expensive cars and his wife wants them, he better put his foot down. What would she do, divorce him? Does the wife work? Do they have kids at home she looks after? As husbands we sometimes forget that just because our wife doesn't earn as much as us that we're entitled to make all the decisions affecting finance. But staying home to care for children is invaluable and deserves credit.
In any case, I'll admit to being somewhat materialistic myself.

you got the clue!!! yes, she's asian, typical chinese, from hong kong. well, i am the same nationality as my wife too, but we never had this problem at all. my wife is very happy with our 4R and my wife never asked/begged for any type of mercedes or bimmer crap. as long as we can afford, my wife would never question about or restrict about what type of car i/we are gonna buy. that's why i have a room for my MKIV supra if i can afford it later. i love my wife!!:D :D

replying to TheBlueWave, yes, my friend's wife is working full time, but thing is, she keep her own money and spend on my friend's. don't think she put a penny in either one of the cars but my friend does. AND she's too materialistic that she only buy some type of LV shit, Rolex or something to show off. once again, lucky my wife won't, she would look at the full picture to see if it is worth before do any purchasing or at least ask my opinion and approval first.

LOL...sweet!

That is just pushing it.. i mean my wife picks on little things most of the time but she still lets me live my life and give me the power of deciding on my own...

My wife loves nice cars and so do i plus she makes good money but inspite of that we would rather settle for a vehicle that would be more of a use than it would be just a luxury..

I hate people that brags about what they have...

It's completely the "keeping up with the Jones' ". Everyone wants to show off, and for some reason, not to be racist, Asians think Mercedes is the most expensive thing out there and that Lexus is cheap. I'm sorry, but that IS that your neighbor is driving is more expensive that your C230 that you just bought.

People buy so much stuff to try and show off. The idea that the more you have, the richer you look. Driving a Mercedes, having a LV wallet/purse, etc. etc. It, imo, doesn't scream, I'm rich. It screams, I put this on credit and now I am in debt.

IMO, someone is rich if they don't have any debt and they still have money. I'd rather drive a Honda or Toyota if it means that I own the vehicle than drive a Mercedes and the bank owns it. That being said, I do want a 5 Series, but in the future. I want it when I can pay it in full, so I don't have it finance it.

I say in the future, because for now, I need to pay my student loans once those start. I want to pay them off as soon as I can.

Hmmm, arranged marriage? If they've been dating for a while, then he should've expected this. I'm not married yet, but I would rather the wifey drive a Toyota/Lexus. If the Toyota/Lexus ends up needing to visit the dealer, I'll take it in.

No doubt... many Asians like MB and BMW, but not all, at least not me. Hell, it's the same Asians who buy C230s and 325i's with leatherette interiors. I can get a Corolla with real leather, maybe even two. Buying for the badge, sad... :bash:

My friend's mom is like that, she loves MB and BMW. She thinks Lexus is inferior, had a 330i and now she's got a Pilot. However, her dad loves Toyotas and calls her mom silly for buying German. My friend took the 330i and said, BMWs are nice, but Toyotas are better. If I'm going to get a German make, I'll get an Audi, RS4 or Q7.

It's like back in grade school, kids would be getting their free lunches from the cafeteria and carrying food stamps, but they're rocking $100 Nikes. Some folks do NOT know what living within their means means. Besides, the one who bought that MB or BMW maybe richer than the guy/gal who bought a Lexus, but they're definately NOT smarter.

I bought a Toyota cause I know it'll last a long time and give me many years of trouble free enjoyment. I have no plans of knowing the dealer mechanics on a first name basis.

i totally agree with the last couple statements. even tho i am asian too, i really hate those so-called rich chinese kids who driving C-class or a 3 series and starring at me in a 4R like no other day. i was like, "kids, don't you know my car might worth more than yours?"
true, nowadays, a lot of asian think they are rich if they drive a bimmer or MB out. but hell, bimmer and MB are made in US now versus toyota/lexus are still japanese made(at least 4R is). talking about reliability, not all but at least more than half japanese automotives are way far more reliable than euro vehicles.
like my friend's wife said, lexus/toyota are cheap, i'm like "don't you know a fully loaded IS350 might cost more than your 335i?"
i feel so sorry about those type of asian, especially i have one in my family, my mom. in our family, except she's still driving a ML class, the rest of us, my dad, sister, me and my wife all have toyota and honda. tundra, 4R, accord and tC. she still think MB is the symbol representing RICH. i let her drove my 4R, even tho how nice it is compare to her ML, she wouldn't admit it VERBALLY, only in her heart. if she say so, she'll break the MB die hard fans image of her.
well, i guess this topic can share how difference in personality by how they judge different country made vehicles.

maybe me and my wife are too ground to earth but we are actually really happy with our 4R. we have no regret of what we got.

Although i cannot deny that some Asians do indeed go after image, i find that this thread tone is a bit bias...and oddly humorous. So, you guys are telling that the other cultures do not have such tendencies?? And that somehow, Asians suffer more from it?? That's news to me.

Hmmm, where is Louis Vutton (sp?) made or advertised in?? Asian magazines?? Not really. LV's main customer base is certainly not Asian by any shot of the imagination.

Or let's look at BMW and Mercedes. If you go to your local Asian supermarkets (plenty here in Houston), then what brand of vehicle do you see the most?? TOYOTA, HONDA, ACURA, LEXUS. Trust me, being a car nut, i have paid attention to this. Along the same lines, you see the same at your local Indian market. You won't find any more than a few German brands. And this clearly reflects in the salesman at local dealerships. Here in Houston, where there is a huge Asian population, you find Asian salesman in all your Honda and Toyota dealeships. You won't find one Asian dude selling a Mercedes or BMW...and i have been to all the dealerships of all brands!!:D (Uhhh, to testdrive the cars of course!)

Do young Asians like to drive BMW 3-series?? Of course, but so do the other ethnicities! We all know that the 3-series is a yuppie car...it reflects the "young successful individuals before kids." It attracts young people of all races. Do i see a lot of Asians here in Houston driving BMW?? Of course...because there are a lot of young Asians running around. But i also see a TON of Toyotas and Hondas running around driving by Asians. However, if i go to PLANO Texas, then i see a bunch of spoiled white kids in their Bimmers and Mercs!

Oh BTW, i drive my Corolla everywhere since it attracts less negative attention (aka car jackers). My G500 is solely for off-road purposes. On long trips, we take my wife's comfy Highlander. My wife just wants something reliable that she won't mind people denting it (she works at big medical center).

So, before we all jump on the bandwagon of bashing the Asians for being superficial, we need to take a step back and look at the whole picture.

I cannot believe the generalizations that i have read in this thread!:(

As for the original story, i don't really give a crap because it's his fault for marrying such a bitch. Who are we to judge or criticize him or his situation?? Maybe he gets sex four times a day!:D To all those people who chose the wrong partner, the person to blame is the one looking back at you in the mirror. And for those looking into the relationship, remember, there is always 2 sides to a story. If there isn't, then take out that mirror and blame that person in the mirror again!

Thai, your opinion is true, but well it's still really depends on the city where this occurs in. If you live in LA California (Rowland heights, Alhambra, El Monte), definitely you know what i mean. same as SF (saramonte, sunset area), those are very un-normal area and you will see my statement happens very often, and most of the time it happens on asian. i am not racist on any particular nationality but it seems occur more often within asian community.

My wife was wanting something really cheap, like a Hyundai or something lol. I had to push her to take the 4Runner. She's glad she did though, and so am I. Didnt want her in a little death trap with both my kids in tow anyway. Plus I knew how much she liked the 4Runner after having one as a rental when her Acura was in the body shop from being rear-ended. That's when we fell in love with the 4Runner :biggrin2:

As for the other guy's wife, what a bitch!! I'd tell her, if you are so damn picky, then guess what, car's in YOUR name, and YOU pay for it. :bash:
