just hit 15k miles

i have an 08 urban runner that just 15k miles. im due for an oil change.

is there anything i should take a look at 15k miles? anything else i need/want to change? aside from the oil change

im sure the toyota dealership is going to upsell me on a bunch of stuff. i just dont want to get ripped off.

Unless your in a real dusty area and need the air filter replaced, I say if your going to use your dealer, get the oil and filter done and get out of the dealers service Dept quickly.

Wait. Don't tell me you take it somewhere to do an oil change! Of all the 4Runners I've ever owned, my 4th gen's oil and filter has to be the easiest by far. No ramps. No jacks. Nothing to remove to get to anything... Just oil, filter, funnel, catch basin, socket, filter wrench, rags and a drop cloth (if you're messy like me).

I just replaced my air filter (PLEASE don't tell me you don't know how) at 14,000 miles and it was surprisingly dirty. Autozone had a $4 rebate on the Fram air filter. Other than that, nothing else to do except check your tire pressure, what with it dropping due to the cooler temps (you DO own a pressure gauge) and perhaps put some fuel system cleaner (Techron is good) in the tank at the next fill-up.

If you're in it for the long haul let them change the axle fluid (F&R). If you don't tow I would do it now and again at 60-75k.

yeah im pretty stupid when it comes to cars and what not so i dont change my own oil nor to i have any space or the materials hehe. lol dont laugh :runaway:

but yeah i pretty much dont want to do something stupid and ruin my fairly new car thats all. i'd hate myself if that happened.

how much does changing the axle fluid cost anyways? parts and labor?

im still running on the stock dunlops(hate them)... so what should the pressure be at now since its colder? i dont own a tire pressure gauge either lol.

Hi Nuke - what about the rock protector plate underneat? Don't you have to take this out to get to the oil drain plug?

Not on a 4Runner - there is an access hole for the oil plug.

The filter is a different story, though. The V6 has the filter on top, so no problem. On the V8, it's best to remove the skid plate in order to avoid making an oily mess that you can't clean up.
