Just installed wheel spacers ... question ...

So I just put SpiderTrax wheel spacers on my '12 Trail. I have factory size tires, they've just been upgraded to General Grabbers.

At not even full lock, I'm getting rubbing on the front and back of the front tires. I saw the fender liner mod to fix the front, but what about the back?

Also, This is just turning on the street ... Has anyone off-road'd with the spacers once the fender liners have been moved forward? Does it rub under compression and lock then? I'm beginning to wonder if the spacers are worth the ultra cool look (and they DO look ultra cool) ...

Thanks in advance, photos to come soon.

Do the liner mod and even then you're probably going to need to take a knife or dremel to them. I have my caster adjusted as far forward as possible and still get rubbing at the back. I plan on doing some cutting to get rid of it.

Not sure which 4runner you have, I have the trail, with trail wheels and 275 BFGs, no lift or other adjustments. When I added the Spider Trax I had a bit of rub, did the liner move mod for the front, and removed the mudflaps from the rear of the front wheel wells. I have no rub on road or off anymore.

And you are right, with the added 1.25" from spider trax the stance is MUCH better. This is the way the truck should have come factory....of course I mean with the factory wheels with the right backspacing and offset to have the same look as with the spider trax.

Mine are on the way for my TE. I dont much chopping/trimming. Can't want to have a correct looking stance.

Alright, so - moved my front liner forward and I trimmed the mud flap.

I'll post up pictures of how I trimmed it - but I'm extremely pleased with the outcome. Absolutely no rubbing that I've found since - full lock, up hill, down hill.

I also ran out to best buy and picked up one of these:
Kicker - Hideaway 8" Subwoofer with Enclosure and Integrated 150W Amplifier - 11HS8

And using this as a guide:

Installed it. Took about 3-4 hours from beginning to end having never done anything to the interior of my T4R before. I'll post some pictures of this as well. Fits perfectly, only difference is I had to position my sideways instead of front to rear because of my Husky Liners - still fits perfectly and didn't even need to strap it down because of it. I'll try and snap some pictures of that as well.

All in all, pretty productive day.

Alright, as promised, here are some pictures of my mudflap trimming:

You can see the trouble area here - the clean spot where the tire has rubbed the mud off:

Here it is removed, and with the template drawn on, I basically just followed the natural curves in the flap:

Here are the pieces that were trimmed out:

Here it is reinstalled, all the factory mounting points were able to be reused and you cannot see the trimmed area one the tire is on:

Here is my tire now at full lock in the back, mind you this was touching before even on a flat surface:

And here is the front, after doing the liner move mod as shown in dozens of other posts:

As requested ... all of these are post spacers ( ignore the packing materials from my Gobi that are still laying around :) )

Hey JNance,
Nice looking ride. I'm waiting for my new TE to arrive in the next few weeks and I'm considering a lot of the same mods you've done, including the General Grabbers, spacers, bilsteins, and the Kicker sub as well. I'm wondering how you are liking everything so far? I know it hasn't been that long, but would you do anything differently? How's that sub working for you?
Thanks!

After spidertrax install my 265/70/17 duratracs are rubbing front and mud guards a well. Gonna pull the front liner ahead and do the body mount chop this weekend ( 285's coming eventually). Im going to try to use my heat gun to mould the mud guards for the required clearance before cutting em.

Awesome, just picked up a '12 Trail, same color and wanted to space out the wheels. Just to confirm, you're running no lift and 265/70/17?

Also, any feedback on the spacers?

Anyone with an SR5 and Spidertrax having the rubbing issues that I am? I am at .85" Billys, Stock SR5 wheels, 265/70-17 BFG AT and 1.25" spidertrax and I can not make it stop rubbing on full lock reverse on the Driver Front of Fender. I have done the fender mod and all. I also get a rub pulling into driveway turning right and braking.

After all the research I've done on this forum, I've concluded these 4runners just don't like wheel mods much. Really baffles me cause although a 97 4runner has been in my garage since 97, my wheel mods have always been on my Jeeps. Never had issues there until I got extreme with tire sizes. Don't get me wrong here, not bashing in any way, treasure both those vehicles.
But I ponder, sometime back I heard you could always step up about 1" in tire size due to vehicle manufacturers building in the clearance for tire chains where & when necessary. But you go that 1" on a 4runner and there may be problems. Do northern folks have issues with tire chains?
