Just plasti-dipped and painted my wheels!

Has anyone done this who also also had the problem with the rusting wheels? I'd like to try this new look but I have some pretty bad rusting and paint peeling issues.

You'll need to smooth out the surface as much as possible. Dip will make it look better, but it wont completely fill in the imperfections (just like paint).

If the wheels are pretty shot, you might as well do the prep work then go get them refurbished instead of spraying dip over it.

I chipped one wheel on a rock when I was in Borrego a couple of weekends ago. I just used some model paint to touch it up, but I can see where it is. Tomorrow, I'll probably hit it with a coat of Plasti-Dip and then a coat of the spray paint. No big deal. Survived the car wash with no flaking.

With just PD on wheels I've never had chips but definitely scrapes from off roading. If you rub the area with thinner it will create a smooth transition from metal to the paint. Then paint over it. It will really minimize the visibility of the touch up. I've touched up my wheels several times and it's always looked smooth.
