just purchased an 89 SR5 4Runner, NYC some questions

hey guys ,
i just purchased a 1989 4Runner with 105k miles , im starting to get into it and have some newbie questions .
it needs a windshield and i am having a hard time finding the rubber seal that goes around the window , i was hoping to buy it ahead of time so whoever installed the windshield so they didnt hack it when they installed .

the 3.0 has that loud click in the valve train and i think i want to fix it , someone told me that i need to find someone that has the special tools to do the shims , anyone local to NYC that can do this ?

is there FSM that i can DL for this ?

where can i get the vinyl spray dye for the dash pad i can only find in black ?

i think thats it for now , i will post a pic a little later .

Oops - looks like you're already a member. You can do the stethescope trick to isolate where the tic is coming from. FYI - my 93 has had a tic since I bought it with no ill effects. Just turn up the stereo, and it's gone!

i ordered that weatherstrip last night ,
the windshield i did see, they want $158 to ship, so im going to keep trying to get it locally this week , if i cant come up with anything i may just bite the bullet and do the ebay one .

Did you mention what color the interior is?

Dupli Color HVP111 "charcoal gray" is an exact match for the 1989 dark gray interior.

I painted a brown inclinometer shell grey to match once:

The cap on the bottle does not match at all, almost looks black, but rest assured its a good match if that is your interior color.

Any windshield place can get you the windshield. You could call a place and discuss what gasket they use. I wasn't aware there was a problem with the generic gasket. I would call a couple of shops and ask them what their battle plan will be.

I agree with 89FourRunner's advice on the Dupli-Color Charcoal Gray. I've used a ton of it on my back panels, a console and even matching the ashtray to the dash.

I tried some SEM Vinyl Dye that everyone likes but maybe it was old because it spit and left a terrible finish. I had to sand it off and redo it. You can get Dupli-Color from Amazon if you can't find it locally. My local Autozone seems to stock exactly two cans at a time:

I tried to insert a picture of some interior paint I did but Photobucket seems to be holding my pictures hostage. There are a few pictures at the link below. In post #11 the door pockets were red and I painted them with gray Dupli-Color. You can see that it's a nice match.

I'm in CA, but I've had good luck with the "we come to your house and install a new windshield" people. About $200 all in for my 2000 bmw.
