Just sold my Land Cruiser and bought a 4 Runner

Up until a few days ago, I had a '99 Land Cruiser. While it is/was a great vehicle, it was 8 years old with 112K miles on it. It was going to need about $1500 worth of work soon, and while out looking for something else I might be interested in, I came across an '05 SR5 4runner 2WD V8. It has 32K miles on it, had a full service history, and the PO had leather installed. I love the ride, and even though its the same motor, it has a ton more pickup than the LC. I expect gas mileage to pick up some (probably not much though) as I was getting anywhere from 13-15 MPG in the LC. Some stuff I don't miss already are the LC "clunk" when putting it in or taking it out of gear..and the rattling cat converter, and the shreaded leather drivers seat. The 4runner is much smoother--very car like. Should be great for towing my boat.

Anyway, I did a quick search and was wondering if anyone has found a fix to the remote rear window down only issue. It looks like the Japanese version has both up and down via remote; has anyone come up witha fix for the US model to do both via remote?

Are you going to miss having a 4wd ?

The thing that really impressed me about the 4R is the smooth ride , yet it rides like a truck .... kinda weird but unique for an SUV. I have a 4x4 so maybe the 2wd is softer riding , more car like.

I won't miss it; I don't think I ever used it. I never go off road. I just use the vehicle to tow my boat and go back and forth to work.

Rattle on CAT

I have a 92 LC with 215K on it. When I read your post I got a smile when you mentioned the Cat. It's actually the heat shield that makes the noise at least it was on mine. I had hoped that by 99 year models it would have been fixed.

After several repairs, mine finally just got so bad, I had it taken off. Still runs fine, but no more rattle.

I wish it had been only the heat shields; that was the first thing I checked. It was the honeycomb inside the cat that had broken free. No matter how many clamps it had around it, it still sounded like, well, rocks in a hollow tube.

And when I was down there checking that out, I saw grease splattered all over the right front wheel-the CV boot was gone (well MOST of it was gone) and the cv joint was visible. I checked the other side and while not as bad, it didn't have much life left in it as it was all rotted and cracking. I hated getting rid of it as it was paid for, but I needed something that I didn't have to work on (or get worked on). I just don't have the time (or another vehicle) to be getting worked on. And at $1500-$2000 to fix, it was almost as cheap just to get rid of it.
