JWaldz '99 Adventure Build - Dual Locked | Geared | Mid-Travel | 35s | Armored

Thanks for the comments everyone!

ARKRWLR--

Build looks great, and appears to be working really well too, even with the slick Xterrains!

Questions about your re-gear: Are you still around 14 mpg, or did you see any fuel mileage change, good or bad? And do you wish you would've gone 5.29's instead of 4.88's? Seemed like you might not be overly impressed with 4.88's by your comment of "not much of a jump from 4.30 to 4.88..."

Just curious...I'm considering a re-gear so my Runner will hold overdrive at interstate cruising speeds instead of all the crazy downshifting to maintain speed. I know 4.88's should do this (as I'm 4.10 now with 285/70R17's), but don't want to spend good money twice. Thanks in advance.

I didn't see much of a change really. The reason I decided on 4.88s is simply because I'm on the highway A LOT. Otherwise, I would have gone with 5.29s. I think once I do a much needed tune up I'll see more power out of my truck and feel the 4.88s for what they really are. If you have no plans to run 35s, 4.88s will be just fine. 5.29s would be a bit overkill. If you do a lot of highway driving, I wouldn't recommend 5.29s anyways. Good luck.

Been waiting for this to come in for a while...

Congrats on new plates... but i will have to tell u that when i first saw the plate the first thing that i assumed it said was "Rock Salt"

Saweeet!!! How much did you pick them up for? They need to be rebuilt? I just go my SAW 2.0's in yesterday.

$300 and a 30 min drive!! I haven't got them yet, meeting him later after work. He said his truck was a mall crawler (his exact words lol) and only had them for a couple years. Doubt they'll need a rebuild. My only worries is they are for a 1st gen taco. I know they'll fit but the valving might be off. We'll see.

The valving should be fine and I'm assuming they have the 650 lb coils. I've read that the 2.5's ride a bit stiffer, but with your ARB and skid you should be fine. That's a killer price and rebuilding them (if they need it) seems pretty straight forward from what I researched.

I think you're right. On their website they seem to have identical specs Toyota: Sway-A-Way. A rebuild, if necessary, shouldn't set me back too much. Especially after I sell off my current setup. His price also included 1" Toytec rear shackles, a tacoma rear proportioning valve adjuster, and a diff drop that I can sell off as well.

Congrats on your SAW's, too btw. I can't wait to get these bad boys on the runner!

Yeah it will probably only cost me $50 after selling my current lift. I always love getting extras thrown in on a deal. I got some headrests once with spark plugs I bought off craigslist and sold the headrests for a profit.

Yeah I can't wait to get mine in as well. Their sitting in my work office now, but hopefully I can get some time this weekend to get them in. Your 4runner is getting some nice goodies recently. Those BAMF sliders are going to look awesome.

Eric, you don't want coilovers. You want a straight axle!

Don't we all??

Now all I need is some Uni-ball UCA's haha! Really digging Icon's.

Actually, I'm SUPPOSE to be saving for tires. I've got most of it saved up. Whoever else runs 35's knows it's impossible to get a good tire for under a grand. Right now I'm thinking of 315/75/16 Super Swamper IROK ND's.

They're so freakin sexy!

good god! i hope you don't drive your truck on the hwy much with those tires on.

They're radial, not bias. They are built for extreme traction with good on road manners. Look them up, the way they make the design is crazy!

The excitement just doesn't end today! These were waiting for me when I got home :D

Hmmm, he changed the design a little from mine. Looks good though!

I wonder why he did that... They still look really good regardless. My buddy (with a welder) and I are putting them on Tuesday. I just ordered a panhard drop as well and hopefully it will come in time so we can weld that up same day.

Since I'm on the hunt for tires I got a good tip on how to save money on them. A guy referred me to this site >> Cosmetic Blemished Tires Available Direct! | News Articles | Interco Tire. It's a bunch of blems for DIRT CHEAP. I'm keeping a close eye on it.

He said he did it so the kickouts would be consistent with the other sliders. Then he doesn't have to go back and cut/bend the kickout just for 4runner sliders. I honestly like both designs, but I guess it's cool knowing you have one of a kind sliders. :D

I wish there was a way to buy blems online. Most of the time its something really simple that is wrong and doesn't cause any issues with the tire. Good luck with the search.
