Ouch! $700 for a full float kit, I didn't realize that they were so expensive...

Went and got my oil changed at the dealership today b/c I was running short on time to do it myself. Over an hour later I ask what the deal is. Guy come gets me and says "We can't get your skid plate back on" I knew right then and there it was gonna be trouble.
My skid-row front skid is torqued like hell from bashing on rocks. So I took precautionary measures to prevent it from popping bolts outs. I upgraded all the bolts to grade 8 a while back and the 3 front and 2 rear mounts I bolted through and capped them with lock nuts. This would prevent the skid plate from coming off. Well the dealership has never once had to take my skid off to change the oil nor did they ask me about it since it's obviously aftermarket.
So, come to find out.. they broke all 3 bolts in the front holes. I find it questionable they didn't come find me after they broke the first one. So now I get the pleasure of trying to drill out 3 broke grade 8 bolts, fml. At least they comped my oil change. Still pissed off about it though.

F that, they'd be getting those bolts out themselves. Especially 3 bolts, they must be stupid to mess up that many and not ask questions first.

go back and talk to the GM or the senior service manager... thats some serious BS, they need to fix that. aftermarket modification or not, they broke it and didnt ask about it intill after the damage was done. thats on them. they screwed up and dropped the ball

I could just picture the mechanic, "what the hell kind of bolts are these? they just won't come out.." "lock nut? whats that?"
how do you break grade 8 bolts with hand tools? well i guess im thinking like 1inch bolts. still crazy though.. they had to have tried to loosen them, then when they didnt come loose tried to turn them the opposite direction? just doesn't seem right I mean its a bolt how hard is it to figure out?

The biggest thing that pisses me off is the fact they broke all 3. If I was a mechanic and broke a bolt and the next one was giving me the same trouble, I'd inspect it all around. They used air tools to zip the bolts out.
I don't have time to sit and wait for them to get the bolts out. I'll be gone all weekend and I work all week. I got out of work early specifically to get an oil change. So, It looks like I'll be doing this on my own time.

Damn dude I would raise all kinds of hell. The bottom line is that they broke it so either they need to fix it or pay to have it fixed.
Hearing about crap like this is exactly why I change my own oil and do all my own maintenance (all that I can anyway). At least if I mess something up or break something, I know it was my fault.

I hear ya, I really do.. But I have to have it fixed before next weekend cus I'm going to the park and I don't have time or the luxury to make them do it cus of work. I might not have to drill them out, hopefully. The nuts are still on top of them all which means there will be exposed threading if I take the nuts off. Gonna try and get some vice grips on them and turn them out.

no doubt on the DIY maintenance all I need now is a tire changer/ balance and i'd be set. I hate having to rely on other's anyway. The dealership changed the timing belt on my truck before I purchased it, when it came time for a new one an I did it I found 3! missing bolts on the front drive belt components like WTF some mechanic got done an said Eh he doesn't need these, or this rubber grommet to keep debris out of the timing case..... bastords

then they need to pay for your rental car while they work on your truck... id be so far up the GMs ass i could fill his cavities...

At this point I'm scared they will do more harm than good working on my truck.. Too many modifications and aftermarket things. I know some of the mechanics up there and know they do a good job. Next time I take it in for any kind of work I'll make sure they know they need to ask before taking anything off. Lesson learned, if it happens again I will definitely chew some ass.

Not Toyota related but I figured it was worth mentioning. Opening day for Duck Season kicked off this past weekend for us here in Arkansas. It's a ritual I drive around 2 hours north east to meet up with my old buddies to hunt. On the first day we head out the previous night and camp on the levy. We stay up all night& morning catching up, drinking, and tell ridiculous stories 
. Then, we hit the water a few minutes before shooting hours time. Had a blast this weekend. Water is low from the horrible summer drought we had. You could walk clear across the slough to the other side of the river and only be in knee to mid thigh high water. The ducks are most certainly flying though. We had many land in the slough roughly 10-20 feet from us.
1st Day - 28 Ducks
2nd Day - 48 Ducks!!

Cooking some marinated duck strips for brunch from the ducks killed on the 1st day.
. Then, we hit the water a few minutes before shooting hours time. Had a blast this weekend. Water is low from the horrible summer drought we had.
