So I finally did a full day wheeling trip out here in CO. We did Red Cone Pass and Argentine Basin/Pass. I left at 7am to meet everyone (about 5 trucks) an hour away. We then proceeded to drive another hour through the front range. Finally reaching the trail head, it probably took 2 hours to reach the peak. After Red Cone we decided to head North to hit Argentine Basin trail. We drove through the beautiful area of Keystone and Georgetown to get to the trail head, around an hour away. We traveled through the basin and visited a couple of mines. Going through the basin we made our way up, back and forth on the sketchy switchbacks. Talk about nerve racking. There's nothing like climbing a rock ledge on a 90* turn, on a trail with no more than 3' of room on each side. We hung out at the top to take pictures and admire the view. The west side of the peak is actually part of the Continental Divide which was really cool. It was already close to 6 when we got to the top so we decided to head back down, and head home. Needless to say, I didn't get home till almost 1030pm.

Such an amazing trip and I definitely look forward to more of them. I just still can't believe I actually live a few hours from these places. Enjoy the pics guys..

When I was young there was an area just west of lake George. It was a road that went to the south platte river I knew by the name of long water gulch. My dad used to take us wheeling there in an BA scout. maybe still exists??

How's your truck breathing up here compared to home?

My truck is so heavy, it's not really enjoying the hills. I've gone up to Denver a couple times and and since the springs is a higher elevation the way back has a bunch of long hills. It's not fun lol. Constantly having to turn overdrive off. In fact, a friend and I were headed out to the ToyTec Customer Appreciate and my heater control valve decided to break at the inlet side on Monument Hill. That really sucked. Lost all my coolant. I knew it was needing to be replaced by I kept putting it off. Bit me in the ass lol.

Trying to get use to the long drives out through the front range to get to trail heads. Some steep grades out there.

Been a busy past couple of months! Only a couple more mods I'd like to get done before the year ends.

I got around to having the exterior completely washed, polished, and waxed. I don't have the patience for it and I was recommended a guy for a great price so I went for it. Got rid of A LOT of scratches and swirls. I haven't seen the paint shine as much as it does now, even when I bought it it wasn't this shiny.

Shortly after the detail we got smothered in snow and the truck got all dirty lol. Oh well, it was bound to happen. Wife and I decided to go get a Christmas tree. Obligatory pic in the snow with the tree of course

The past couple months I've been stocking up on parts to redo my front and rear suspension. I bought my coilovers used with unknown mileage, then put probably another 30k or so on them. I had them rebuilt over the weekend with all new bearings, seals, oil, and nitrogen charge. The oil was burnt black, the lower bearings were shot, and they needed a recharge. I also decided to go to a 14", 700# rate coil to help reduce sag from the additional armor weight up front. Also reduces the amount of preload. You can see the difference in front with the pictures above and the ones below.

Since I was redoing the front I wanted to go ahead and freshen up the rear. It was the original setup I've had since I lifted the rig back in 2009. It was due for a refresh. I bought a set of land cruiser OME 861's and got a good deal on some 4th gen Sway-a-Way 2.0 emulsion shocks. The shocks are a little longer than my previous and offer a slightly bit more travel. Since the coils are a lot taller as well I wont have to worry about losing coils anymore at full flex lol. I also added the Toytec 3" bumpstop extensions while I was already back there changing things up.

So what's left for the year? I plan on redoing all my brake lines with some custom length ones I've already purchased (pictured). I also plan on doing a limit strap setup for the rear with plans to go with a longer travel shock in the rear. For next year, I have some big plans but we'll see if they pan out.

haha, yea.. I wouldn't have minded it if the ride quality wasn't crappy. I liked the low center of gravity and I was still able to completely stuff the 35's front and rear without really rubbing. It just rides so much better now.

One of my favorites! What do you do to protect it from rust? I recently moved to the midwest and have to worry about the salt now.

Thanks! I haven't really been up here in the west long enough to say. All I've been doing is when I get a chance and the weather is ok enough, I run to the wash bay and pressure wash all the road crud off.

Thanks. I got under there a month ago and sprayed 3 cans of rustoelum underneath and a can of high heat spay on the exhaust.

I'm sure I'll have to take more measures in the future. Haven't been in CO through a full winter yet, so not quite sure what to expect.

Definitely be sure to keep that stuff of your truck. My mom has had her 05 T4R since new. It's spent all it's life in Texas and Alabama, two states where snow means lock the doors and don't leave the house until the scary white stuff has gone away...

It has been to Pennsylvania a couple times in the winter though visiting family and just that and not getting it off immediately was enough that she has some rust starting on her frame, hitch, exhaust, etc. on the underside. Whereas my 01 has no rust on the bottom essentially. Be sure to keep a close eye on it.

Mine is a southern truck as well (bought it new in SC.) Just moved here this summer so Im in the same boat.

Southern trucks are best trucks. It's great being able to take any bolt off the truck whenever you want to without spraying it down and hoping it doesn't snap.

I can't believe you could run 891's at all with all that rear weight. Mine didn't last a month before I swapped them for the 861's. Truck looks really good. I need to swap 700's on the front of mine too.

It's been a long time coming. My rear had a good amount of sag but not nearly as bad as some of you guys had, I noticed. Mine held up alright. After a while my shocks began to ware and between the two the rear end was all over the place on the road. Now, it's SOOO smooth. I probably should have done the coil swap when I got the rear bumper. Oh well! 700's are nice. I look forward to testing all this new setup soon

I've been here 20 years and not once ever done a single rust preventative measure and not once had a rust issue.
