Kayak fishing rack

Thanks for posting this option as I will be looking for something similar. My only concern with this is the same I had with my Yakima? roller/saddle carrier. It carries the boat upright and getting caught in downpours can get a little anxious as the boat starts to carry water. When you brake, all the water sloshes forward and back and you start to wonder if the the roof racks are going to rip off. I bought a cover but on the highway it would flap and was annoying. Wondering if the ones that carry it on their sides collect less water in storms.

Why only 2 locks (512 vs 544)? Does this secure 2 crossbars or do I need 4 to secure all 4 mounts?

Oh, and price for the 450R is $30 less through Amazon...

Hi [MENTION=43936]zcruiser[/MENTION], sorry for the late reply. The locks I bought had 4 of them in a box. I think all four have to be installed in order to secure the crossbars.

great thread!! I'm new to the forums here, and just bought a 17 TRD premi, and looking at rack options/roof racks/etc... I mostly do kayak fishing up in CT. I have a killer rack on my outback, a simple rack on my datsun, but thinking I'll do the hullivators on the 4runner. Still wondering if anyone had the gobi rack and put a yak rack on it somehow.

Built this for our recreational 10.5' kayaks out of 1.5" PVC.

Required 3x 10' sections.

Only glued the side sections so I could break it down and store it in the crawl space with the yaks.

On the truck...

Used 4x 2'x3/4" Velcro strips to hold it down to the roof rails (cut from 12' strip).

1.5" pipe allows clearance of Sat antenna.

Extends back far enough to protect the rear spoiler for loading from the rear.

Test fit of one of two yaks...

I have 4x 12' cam-lock straps that I will use to strap the yaks to the crossbars and roof rails (not the PVC).

Breaks down nicely.

Try a neoprene cockpit cover. Seals tight, doesn't flap, keeps the water out.

Just be sure you get the right size. NRS Super Stretch Neoprene Cockpit Cover at nrs.com
