KDSS and '16 T4R

Newbie here with a couple of quick questions to help with shopping for T4R. Wife and I have decided that our next vehicle will be a T4R TEP and want to get the KDSS as well. The two Toyota dealerships around here each only have 1 TEP, but I can't tell for sure if they KDSS. Their online listings don't help much. And so far we have only looked at one in person (haven't driven yet).

My questions are the following:

1. When looking at the window sticker on a T4R and looking for KDSS, will it specifically say "KDSS" or is it listed on there as something else? And does KDSS include CRAWL or does the TEP come with CRAWL and just KDSS is the option? Just trying to clarify what I am looking for on that to make sure a TEP has KDSS.

2. Other than small things like color and Entertainment changes, are there any expected changes for the '16 model T4R? We like the '15 T4R just like it is, but our purchase time frame and desire for KDSS may put us in a '16 model. Just wondering if they should be pretty much identical to a '15?

3. If we are planning on to tow, is there anything else to look for or make sure it has other tan the hitch and wiring hookup, which it seems most come with?

All input appreciated. Couldn't find the clarification on the KDSS listing on window sticker in searches.

Thanks,

Duh! Thanks! That one did not come up in my searches!

But one thing not covered in there is how it is listed on the actual window sticker? So on a new model, sitting on dealer lot with window sticker, is it listed as "KDSS" on there or something else? Looks like it should be a $1000 option on TEP, but one we looked at definitely didn't have that listed.

Mine said KDSS on the sticker. When you start it up for the test drive, if it has KDSS the KDSS light will come on when you turn the key to "on". You can also take a quick look under to see if the sway bar attaches the same way in the picture. It should say it on the sticker, but if you really want to check to verify or if you feel like you're just missing where it is written, then go ahead and physically check the vehicle.

There will be no significant changes for the '16 model year.

KDSS on TEP

To see if it actually has KDSS you can look underneath at the frame on the driver's side near the middle of the doors. You should see two expansion/pressure cylinders with tubes running fore and aft mounted on the side of the frame. Also at the front and rear anti-sway bars there is a hydraulic piston covered by a telescoping rubber cover. It looks sort of like the covers or boots on the axles. The front one occurs on the driver's side of the sway bar below the frame while the rear piston occurs on the passenger side.

On the sticker it should say Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System as one of the featured accessories or components. The listed MSRP cost is $1750.00.

I found that with most sales people on Toyota lots you had to educate them a bit about what the 4Runner features are. Don't be too surprised if the sales person doesn't know what you mean when you ask about KDSS. Read a lot of reviews and look for the video explaining how KDSS works. That also illustrates the various components. A test drive will show you how the vehicle handles with and without KDSS. The difference when cornering is remarkable.

For 2016 you might find a couple more body colors added to the choices. They've talked about a "quicksand" or light brown as a new color. No major changes in the mechanical systems are expected for 2016.

Towing receiver/wiring is standard on all models - does not include hitch/ball, buy that separately for your needs.

Yea, the 4.10 gears, 6spd transmision, and v8.

:jk:

Seriously, don't expect to tow any heavy loads for long distances. It lacks the power to do this. Light loads or short hauls are fine up to the rated capacity.

Oh, definitely not thinking huge loads or over the 4700 pound rating. That should be well above what we would ever tow. Would just be either utility trailer with the motorcycle on it or 2 Waverunners...

Also, go ahead and get an extension to what you are planning on towing. They (Toyota) for some reason didn't think the wiring harness plug needed to be beside the receiver as every other vehicle is. About a foot to the left. I went to a good sized trailer place and the 4 pin male/female ends with long wiring were about $6 but needed to be spliced together, or they may be able to do it for you.

Oh yeah, noticed that was way over there! Pretty poor placement for sure.

Well, wife and I and our two girls went and test drove a TEP w/o KDSS and all really liked it. More than enough room, rides very nice and quiet on highway, etc. Just have to decide on which color we want when we are ready to buy and find that color with KDSS! Wife and girls really liked it and wife enjoyed driving it.

Apparently you have never went off road and drug the crap off the rear bumper because of departure angle being too shallow. It is in a good place for off road protection, not so good to make it easy to plug in.

So whats the update? We have been test driving 4runners for a few months now for my mother in law. Wondering if a fellow Iowan is having any luck on finding anything?

Finding anything on what? All he needed to do was pick s color and wait for the 16s to arrive from Japan

Nothing yet. No TEP with KDSS around. Just waiting until spring and go from there. Thinking white or the darker red
