KDSS or No?

And just on a side note - I am in the Houston area as well. I had two different salesmen at two different dealerships try to sell me a Trail which they swore had KDSS - neither of which did.

I called three h-town dealers to try and test drive one with KDSS, it was like I was speaking a foreign language.

Up to at least 2016 model year, KDSS is not available on Trail/Trail Prem/TRD Off-Road vehicles at any Toyota dealers in the Gulf States region of MI, LA, AR, TX, OK. If you want KDSS you're going to look out of region. While living in Tulsa I had to purchase mine from elsewhere and had it shipped to me, couldn't even get the dealer to make a trade. I used a cars.com search to find who had them and the lowest price/closest location with KDSS.

YES.

I drove FJ for years, wife was pushing for a new 4Runner. I was on the fence until I drove the Trail Edition with KDSS. Makes a world of difference. I love off-road capability, but lots of road driving is my reality in between the fun days.

I love my trail w/kdss. I agree it is great for off road driving, but realistically I am mostly onroad. When testing a sr5 and trail w/kiss I experienced less nose dive and body roll. It makes a huge difference in on road manor in my opinion

I have mine with KDSS and a 2.5 inch lift. On high ways and canyon roads I was quite surprised at the handling of the car with minimal body roll doing ~30-40 mph turns

Here are the only KDSS negatives I can think of:

1. Cost (its not free)
2. If you install a lift, you will need to add an hour extra of your time to deal with KDSS.
3. If it breaks.. its expensive to repair/replace.

I bought my 2010 TE at Don McGill in Houston, and it has KDSS. If Gulf States quit distributing KDSS equipped Trails, it happened after 2010.
