KDSS recharge - making my own SST

So I've got 98% a DIY SST assembled just looking for the quick coupler that goes from my hydraulic hose to the port on the KDSS manifold which is exactly a high side AC fitting. Anyone have any idea of what fitting the SST tool uses there? See attached pics. So far I've picked up a high side quick coupler for AC but getting it adapted to NPT requires two special fittings that are only available from two different fitting distributors. They're already ordered but hoping there is a cleaner way. I'm also concerned it may not handle the 1100 psi required for the final air bleed step.

Here's what's under the vehicle

Here's what I bought today, but now waiting on two fittings to get it to connect to my 1/4 NPT hose

Here's the fitting I would like to find. Toyota SST pic

Other concern is the coupler handling the 1100 psi air bleed step.

Reason I'm doing this is the KDSS clunk due to low fluid.

Also if this doesn't work I'm probably ripping the KDSS out. I do enjoy it on the paved roads but it's getting to be a pain on trails with the clunk and limiting travel.

shoot i would've ripped it out already. be easier to add a traditional sway bar.

super cool that you've figured out most of the SST though.

maybe machine the fitting you need out of a piece stainless. drill and tap, throw it in a lathe to make it fit a wrench

RIPPED OUT FRONT SWAY!

Went through the tedious process of recharging the system, replaced sway bushings (outers are new as well, also EVERYTHING on front suspension is new). Took it for a test spin and clunk was still there. Removed sway, tied up hydraulic dampener, test drive....... CLUNK GONE. Still have rear sway and it works great. Feels just about the same on the highway. Loving it again! Onto more projects ;)

Neat!

How many miles on the truck? Are you curious about removing the rear as well and testing on it?

90k. Probably leave it as is for a while. I'd imagine that rear sway helps on the freeway. I have good flex back there with the Blackgate customs KDSS extenders.

As a fellow WA member with a leaking front piston, you have me REALLY tempted to do this.

Thank you for sharing!

Mind showing more pics of how you tied up the front piston? My KDSS front piston has been clunking and dealer wants 4K to replace. Forget that, I’d rather delete my front sway bar.

Did you compress your front piston all the way? Or did you just ratchet strap it so it won’t move? Any lean after removing it?

I ended up letting out the ratchet strap and just letting the piston do what it wanted, didn't end up hitting anything(skids). No lean.

I also put my front sway back on for the winter since I wasn't doing much on trails and really want to fix the piston. I have bought a used piston and will install it in the coming weeks. 99% sure the internal nut in the piston has slowly loosened over the last few years. If you want to learn a bunch about KDSS follow Dr_kdss on IG. He's got some great aftermarket parts and diligently trying to make more options so that KDSS is more compatible with lifting etc.

Do you mind sharing the connecting pieces you obtained to fit to the KDSS accumulator? Currently working on building my own SST. The info you have provided has been hugely helpful!

For the connector pieces, the main piece is the hotside(red) AC connector, I went to the local Air Conditioning store/business to get one, might have had to buy the set. Can't remember. All I remember is that it's the same connector as one of the AC recharge connectors on Automotive, probably for homes as well.

These are the main pieces for the setup
PIC GAUGES Industrial Pressure Gauge':' 0 to 3,000 psi, 2 1'/'2 in Dial, Liquid-Filled, 1'/'4 in NPT Male - 19RZ18'|'PRO-201L-254P - Grainger

EATON AEROQUIP Hydraulic Hose Assembly':' 1'/'4 in x 1'/'4 in Fitting Size, MNPT x MNPT, 1'/'4 in Hose Inside Dia., Black - 2F711'|'R2-4-15M - Grainger

PNEUMADYNE INC Manifold':' 2 Inlets, 3 Outlets, 1'/'4 in Inlet Size, 1'/'8 in Outlet Size, 1 in Overall Wd - 2KGZ3'|'M10-125-3 - Grainger

The hydraulic pump I bought was on Ebay and similar to this 2.3L Air Hydraulic Foot Pump Auto Body Shop Oil Tank 10,000PSI High Pressure | eBay

Hope this helps!

You are a lifesaver my friend. Hope this thread helps a few more people try to tackle KDSS issues on their own. The price tag when you go to a dealer for repair is a shock for sure. Thank you.

No problem, and a pleasure to help the community. Also, look up Dr. KDSS on google as he has developed and is continuing to develop new products for KDSS.
Cheers!

This is why I will never buy another kdss. My landcruiser would NOT sit level after getting worked on. Myself and toyota techs checked every bolt, bushing, even recharged the system and there was still an inch off and noticeably easier to lean to one side. Some seal busted inside I guess and who knows how much to rip it out and replace. Done.

More pics of the High Pressure fitting for reference.

I just chased a knocking sound down to the front cylinder so I'll probably be here reviewing my options. Sounds like the nut came loose (27k miles but a 2018).

Is there a KDSS parts diagram with torque specs available ?

I've already lost the passenger side upper mount bolt once, and I think that torque was around 103ft/lbs but can't seem to find the document now.

Did you ever figure this fitting? I am going through the KDSS clunk now and building the SST out to swap the cylinder.
Thanks for your info!
