Keaton's 2000 4Runner

Replaced the fuel filter, ran some seafoam thru the tank, and some thru the intake. I think it made a difference, smoother idle. Hasn't done the weird 'miss' on the highway since!

Saturday I plan on taking it BACK to Discount to have the tires re-balanced.

I finally got the tires re-balanced at Discount and I am proud to say she rolls smoothly on the highway.

Probably just figured out my random stutter. My truck threw the P0120 code: TPS. Thank god that part is cheap and easily replaceable. I'll be gone this week, but I'll have a shiny Toyota box waiting for me when I get back. When the CEL popped up, I was thinking downstream CO2 sensor, glad it was this instead.


Also! Installed new LED amber DRLs in the side markers. One was burnt out, now it looks "right" :dancin:

I ordered new upper control arm bushings to install--hopefully allowing it to be aligned.

I also decided I really, really want leather seats. Now the search is on for a wrecked limited.

I also probably need new tires. Discount is unable to balance them properly now, hoping that its just due to the cupping caused by shot upper control arm bushings.

Car did fantastic from Phoenix, AZ -> Cañon City, CO -> Amarillo, TX -> Little Rock, AR -> Memphis, TN.

I finally replaced the UCA bushings. LCA bushings are slated for this weekend. New swaybar components are also arriving. No front or rear swaybars right now results in MISERABLE driving in the city.

Slowly piecing together a Limited upgrade package from parts as well.
 
This weekend was super busy. Here is what was replaced:

* Lower Control Arm Bushings
* Lower Ball Joints
* Upper Ball Joints
* Tie Rod Ends + Boot for Driver's side
* Passenger side CV
* Thermostat + Gasket
* Shift bushing
* Sway bar bushings and endlinks (fronts this weekend, tracking down hardware for the rear)

Drives so much better. The LCA bushings were so shot that you could move the lower control arm back and forth.

Next weekend should be replacing the gas tank skid, adding the rear sway bar back, and attempting to wire a ECT button onto my antenna up/down control wire.

The new shifter bushing really tightened things up, but a tad too much. Hoping it wears some to where its not as stiff.
 
Had another fun (read: expensive) weekend replacing the timing belt after it broke. It was supposedly done around ~97k but I don't think it should look like this after 75k:

WTF!

Anyway--took the time and replaced the idler pulleys with quality Koyo replacements and a new water pump. Replaced the T-stat last weekend, so that was good to go. Finally all back together when I hear a 'tick tick tick' and a loud clack on revving. Turns out the fan clutch is bad now too, along with the fan.

Yay.

Oh to top things off, my mountain bike was stolen off the back of my locked rack last night.

Yay.
 
I DID get the fan AND fan clutch replaced. The truck is quieter now too, I guess that was a symptom of a bad fan clutch right there.

I've been debating dropping back to stock-ish height and tires (probably 265/75s), but I want to paint the factory five stars that have a bad finish on them first, then start worrying about suspension.

Been running 100% fine after the timing belt replacement, I just need to fix the sending unit at some point ($70).

literally on a shoestring budget right now! Ugh!
 
In preparation for a weekend camping trip, I decided to finish out midterms week with a good, nice, deeeeep clean.

First: the driver's side seatbelt was always nasty feeling. It would drag a bit going into the retractor.

Similarly, the steering wheel needed to be degreased. I wish the leather wasn't so worn.

Decided to wash all of the removable rugs with some purple power. The rear cargo carpet was almost ruined by an upturned bottle of gear oil.

While the rugs were drying, I tested out a queen air mattress in the back:

Finally fixed my gas tank problems. The tank skid was beat pretty bad so I figured that the tank had been slightly caved. I was right. Not only that, the pump bracket had been bent upward making it not able to pull the last 1/3 tank.

I had a new denso pump and gasket that I ordered a while back. Took a bit to bend the bracket back correctly and undent the tank but it was put back together correctly. Since my gauge was also always reading full, I also cleaned the resistor contacts on the sending unit and it tested good. It works, finally!

Finally fixed my squeaky clutch spring. I just replaced it with a linear action spring. Now, my clutch is actually a tad lighter too--AND doesn't get stuck down on some mornings.

Perfect!

I filled up today (only used 12.4 gal over 185 miles = 15MPG, not bad) and learned how inaccurate my gas gauge is. Oh well! At least I have some sort of visual indicator.

Where'd you get the linear action spring you out in? I currently have the same problem and lubing it never fixes it.
