Hood Prop Clip

Sometimes the simple things can make a huge difference!

Ordered a new clip for my hood prop (part# 5345290351, or 5321090353, or 534520K010), popped it in place, and closed my hood with confidence! This little $3 part gives me confidence that I can close my hood, and not think twice about it! :trophy:

Mirror

Got my cheap-o manual passenger side mirror, smaller footprint then OEM, but couldnt beat the price, $18 shipped! :keyboard:

Spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor

Got the old spark plugs out, was very nervous they were going to be seized, they were very worn. The old cap & rotor were rusted and pitted. The problem I found was the dust seal for the cap was rotted, and a clip for the spark plug holder on the distributor was missing (but I can't find the bolt or bolt hole, maybe new distributor that doesn't have it?).... :tape:

Marlin Crawler Heavy Duty Transfer Case seat, and shift lever boots

Got the new transfer case shift lever seat, boot and transmission shift lever boot installed. The transfer case was very dirty compared to the transmission ,wasn't expecting that.

Spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor

I wish I realized the "dust cover" (distributor cap gasket was jot included with the new one, ordered it but won't get it until Tuesday due to the holiday weekend.

Took it for a test drive, much smoother, but still about gutless above 5k rpm, and almost nothing above 5500rpm. I need to see what a stock power curve is supposed to look like... :crutch:

A lot cleaner in the engine compartment!

Power curve is about 2500 (torque peaks at just above 3200) to about 4800 above that just burns more gas...

Since I ordered the o2 sensor, I'll install that when it comes in, then start planning the next steps! To many ideas in my head to sort through, diff gearing, lockers, suspenion, get the top off, tint windows, and the list goes on and on. :keyboard:

Head Unit

Ordered a remanufactured sony marine radio when I first got the 4Runner, off an eBay store for $66 shipped. But when I first got it, I found the radio only tuned from 77-88fm. Called Sony, and had to send it in for work, Sony paid for shipping, and just got a BRAND NEW ONE back from Sony! Couldn't believe it! :rockon:

Installed the new blue tooth marine cd player with two USB inputs and an aux in, ran the mic, and turned it on! It worked perfectly! Quick setup (including turning the unit to a red color scheme), tuned, and tested the USB input and control, the blue tooth audio, apps, And voice recognition! Wow head units have come along ways! :horn:

yeah these motors are mid band power makers if you call 125hp at the fly wheel for a vehicle nearing 1.5 tons power there ok power plants but make it hard when your 454 buddy needs pulled out of a mud hole and you dont have the power to pull his 3 ton ***

Hey that's twice the power of my old Samurai,

sure it might not have pulled my old 440 Ramcharger out of the mud pit, but that's what my Duramax is for.


Then again I do love dirt bikes

and ATVs for off road fun, and plan on getting back to them as soon as I get one for my youngest and he can drive it



Until then, he and I will cruise in the 4Runner following my daughter on her ATV. :bolt:

Somewhere around that, and they dont get any power until you have them reving so fast! It was a very different vehicle for sure.

Got the new distributor cap "dust seal"/gasket, $2.xx and a perfect fit with an alignment/locator tab. :naughty: Next little thing will be windshield washer fluid tubing hose hood clips, $1.xx from Toyota! But first, the O2 sensor that's on order.

Very nice and clean man! It's in better shape than my 3rd Gen! I'd love to find a 1st Gen like that.... but they are so expensive out here in that kind of shape... keep up the good work! :cheers:

I have four new windshield washer fluid tubing hood clips on order, $1.xx ea., and an O2 sensor. Hopefully they both come in this week, ordered over a week ago, right before the holiday, which slowed down my shipping a lot. :cry2:



I also need to pull my front bumper and grill to paint the black accent piece behind the chrome bumper, and redo the black on the grill. :ballchain:

After all that, maybe I'll have a better idea for the next job I'll tackle. Thinking I'll pull apart the front third member, clean, reseal, and reinstall. Just want to stop the diff fluid leak at this time, and do lockers further down the road. Still not sure on what gearing (I want to be at the end of the power band in 5th gear at 110mph when the speed limiter kicks on) and lockers (really want electric lockers). :gossip:

More cleaning

Yesterday driving home was just over 100°f, with the a/c on, cruising on the interstate, I was left sweating in the driving seat. :flame:
This morning I pulled the grill off, cleaned the bumper, the end caps, the condenser coils (which were caked shut with gunk), and straightened as many of the fins as I could get my tiny two flat head screw drivers to. Also refinished the metal trim piece behind the bumper and below the grill (sanded off all the rust, primed and repainted black). :flamethrwoer2:

While the front grill was off, decided to take a closer look at my headlights. My headlights were loose, found the passenger missing two screws and one stripped and the driver missing one screw and one stripped. :shrug:

Replaced the missing screws with the stripped ones and one new machine screw. The two stripped ones I just used larger sheet metal screws. This completely fixed one head light, but the other was still loose. I ended up having to adjust the housing a bit, mostly just bent the screw tabs back towards the truck. Now, two nice and tight headlights, that I'll adjust once I get the grill back together. :bravo:

Thank you. Not sure yet. I want to see just what I can really do off road once I get the diff gearing the same. I can't decide on just swapping the rear end with an old junk yard compete diff for super cheap. Or, saving for a completely brand new third member with a locker. Or, swapping out everything to the later years electric locker axles and larger disc brakes. Or, a few other ideas I'm playing with. :shrug:

Coloring with the kids - VSV, vacuum tubing & emissions

I have been trying to figure out if my vacuum lines are ran correctly. After lots of looking, I settled for some nice black and white drawings, that I could print, color, and then review my engine with. :suspicious: Turns out, my plumbing is correct. These don't cover everything, but they sure helped me.
