Key fob STOLEN! 2014 replacment

I thought the shutoff was so that someone wouldn't jack the truck from your driveway while you're warming it up.

This was me, and yes she dropped me at work to then take the kiddos to daycare (never turned it off) and I had the key in my pocket and she certainly wasn't happy when she couldn't restart it.

Same thing happened to us. I started the '14 LE with the key in my purse but got into the passenger seat. My husband dropped me off (never putting it in park) and then went to Home Depot. He doesn't recall it beeping or alerting us that no key was detected like usual when I got out. Once he got to Home Depot and shut it off, we were both stranded. :mmph:

FWIW, A person inside the car can lock the doors while it is running even if you have the keys with you outside the car but now you can't use the key fob from the outside to get back in.

For the record, I was able to start the engine, close the door, and use the pop-out key from the fob to manually lock the door on my 2013 LE. And the engine continued to run.

How do you use the pop out key on the limited model. I'm not looking at my truck right now, but isn't that key only used for the glove box? I don't recall ever seeing a key hole on the limited models?

drivers door is the only keyhole.

The mechanical key works on both the glove box and the doors. There is a keyhole in the door handle. From the manual: "If the electronic key battery is depleted or the entry function does not operate properly, you will need the mechanical key. (→P. 625)"

Interesting. After I've dropped her off, my wife's new Accord starts beeping as soon as she walks away with the keys in her purse. 15 feet at the most.

The LE should have a key not detected indicator too...if only there were some way of knowing the key is not detected...if...only. :tape:

It does have the alert but for whatever reason, we did not notice it this particular time. Not saying it didn't happen but we didn't notice it.

I actually remember the car beeping at me as I walked away, sadly I was in such a hurry I didn't even think about why it does that. Since I was where I needed to be it really didn't bother me, hahaha.

Maybe there is something on the dash but I drive my wife everywhere when together as I get car sick with any other driver. So basically the key is always with me, I've never looked for an indicator.

That's what I thought guys...which leads me to my next question. What was [MENTION=101672]splash101[/MENTION] talking about when he said it turns itself off if the key is not detected? Unless of course, I was just having a very long day and reading his post wrong, lol.

Thank you kindly, Eddiebx. I just assumed the smart key worked the same as my wife's old Mazda where if one tapped the brake to shift into drive, it would kill the ignition. Just tried it, and the 4R was happy to be driven away! So much for the carjack protection. Will ask dealer if it can be programmed like the Mazda.

So, in addition to not being able to lock it from outside when running, it will drive without the smart key around. Hmmm... The smart key isn't seeming so smart this morning.

I have a 2014 trail edition. I'm in Canada so I have DRLs. I have a dealer installed python security system (fob is model 7754P). This model has a key ignition.

Here is the problem, which the company which installed the unit for the dealer says they cannot fix. If I leave the lights on when I leave the vehicle, they turn-off around 20 seconds. If you then use the remote to start it and then turn it off or let it run until it automatically turns off, the lights will stay on and completely drain the battery. The only way to turn them off is us the Toyota key or go into the 4runner and manually turn them off.

Anyone have a work around for this?
