King coilovers and shocks

I didn't change the height at all. I got .5"of lift and like where it's at. Should I worry about getting a spanner soon? I was thinking I'd get one when it is time to rebuild them. Any other times you need one?

if your happy with where it is sitting then don't worry about a spanner tool until you need to change the springs or rebuild the shocks. if you think you might want it a little higher or lower or one side is sagging then get one now. They are not outrageously expensive.

if yes to both i would recommend getting spring size 3.0 16 600
I have a size smaller 3.0 14 600 and i have to preload them quite a bit to gain the lift.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I'm currently debating on getting coilovers or spend it on something else like front locker. Correct me if I'm wrong. From what I've learned about coilovers is if you have to preload the coil more than an inch or two to get more lift then you need stiffer coils. Also I've learned that you only need coil lengths to go 2" over 2x the shock travel. I would recommend going to 14" 650lb coils rather than 16" 600lb coils. Longer coils will create coil bind when fully compressed.
I'm by no means an expert and never owned coilovers but from reading forums and working in offroad shops over the years, that's the info I've gathered.

I'm been contemplating on going with King shocks all around but been seeing both standard and extended travel giving only a 2.5" lift. I want to stay away from a body lift.

Are there any King setups that give a true 3" lift? And if so, would anyone mind to share item numbers, etc?

Get the BTF fab kit. Comes with uniball uppers extended extended lowers, extended tie rods, 300mm axels, and a couple other things. Will work perfect for the kings. But that kit is 3500 lol

yes any/either of the king will get you a true 3 inches no problem. Just takes a little more preload or a stronger spring. I have almost 4" with my kings. Good luck with your decision.
 
Alright guys. I have a full 3" OME lift right now and I'm planning to go kings soon, as I've heard nothing but good news about them and the rebuild-able aspect got me sold of course.

What spring rate are you guys going with up front to achieve a full 3" lift? Will 600lbs been enough? Or would 650lbs be necessary? I might get a front bumper but not too sure. Also, would extended travel be needed?

Any help would be appreciated!

600s will take some preload to get to 3" of lift, and on heavy setups will bottom out very easily. I have 600s on my c/os in the 4runner that's front end light (4 cylinder 5 speed) and never had a winch on it and they were great, tried the same setup on my Tacoma with the 3.4 auto and a heavy winch bumper setup and they plain didn't work. Even over preloaded they sat about 2" taller than stock and bottomed out in normal driving. Had to go to 700's. Even without the weight of the winch bumper on the front the ride quality is still good. For a daily driver 4runner with the V6 I'd go with 650s.

Hi guys I have a 4th gen 06 4runner and wanted to put 2.5x8” 16in collapsed 24in extended coilovers on the front with 3.5in lift and a 2.5 smooth body shock with res 8” travel on the rear. 2 questions.
1. Would the coil overs fit/work with just changing the UCA?
2. What rear coils would I need to match the 3.5 lift? Spring rate, diameter, length?

I know that these are for long travel. However As of right now I am saving up for it. Just wanted know if I could use these parts on the vehicle for now with just a Uca for now without messing anything up? Or should I just go a different route and when it comes time for the LT kit then get the listed above suspension?

Sorry if this is a dumb post I am just getting into this.

Might have better luck getting an answer in the 4th gen section. As this is the 3rd gen section. 1996 thru 2002. :)
